Oneonta Job Corps Recreation Supervisor in Oneonta, New York

Salary Range: $62,352.20 to $62,352.20 Annually

Position Summary:

As a Recreation Supervisor, you will work a varied workday, ensure that all students have open access to recreational facilities and programs, and build community connections for recreational activities.

OJCA seeks a highly motivated professional to join our team who will plan, direct, develop, organize, and execute recreational programs and events for the students.

The department needs an individual with a vision, attitude, and drive for excellence. Someone with a drive to improve the existing programs, develop diverse new activities, and contribute to an inclusive team environment.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to critically problem solve, work independently, and as a team, work collaboratively with internal and external partners, to achieve center and department goals with attention to detail in planning and execution.

Position Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00am-7:00pm

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversees the supervision of students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on and off-center

• Provides supervision, training, and assessment for assigned recreation staff

• Plans, implements and evaluates all recreational programs and makes recommendations for change

• Prepares schedules and calendars for all recreational activities

• Coordinates student field trips

• Creates a supportive work environment; recognizes staff accomplishments and proactively addresses staff performance goals

• Tracks and records program attendance

• Orders and maintains recreational equipment, supplies, and materials

• Prepares and controls the departmental budget

• Designs, develops, and implements an active system of communicating upcoming recreation events to students, staff, and the community

• Implements an active system for obtaining student feedback and statements of interest

• Promotes student and staff participation and interest in recreational activities

• Recognizes and reinforces students’ positive behavior

• Plans, organizes, and controls overtime and on-call staff to ensure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures

• Proven ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate recreation programs

• Excellent coaching skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Extensive knowledge of operational practices and principles of recreation/avocation programs

• Proficient in rules and regulations of common sports and games

• Knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices

• Has a broad knowledge of and experience in developing recreation programs

• Is an independent person who also works well on a team

• Proficient with Office Suite. (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis

• Two years of recreation experience; one of which was in a supervisory capacity

• Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record

• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement, within three months of hire

• Water Safety Certification

• Moderately quiet while in the office; moderately loud when in recreation areas

• Requirement to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends

• Exposure to possible confrontations with students
