SUNY Oneonta is hiring an experienced and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of the Center for Volunteerism and Community Engagement. This position provides leadership for volunteerism, service-learning, and community engagement initiatives and supports campus-wide efforts that advance institutional and SUNY priorities. The Director collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and community partners and oversees program coordination, assessment, and student preparation related to off-campus engagement activities.

In this role, the Director works within the Center for Volunteerism and Community Engagement, which plays a central role in connecting students with meaningful community-based opportunities that support civic responsibility, experiential learning, and community impact. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Student Engagement, the Director collaborates across Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and the broader campus to support high-impact curricular and co-curricular community engagement experiences.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership and direction for the Center for Volunteerism and Community Engagement in alignment with SUNY and institutional priorities.

  • Developing, implementing, and assessing volunteerism, service-learning, and community engagement initiatives that promote student learning, civic development, and community impact.

  • Supporting faculty and academic departments through consultation, resources, and professional development related to service-learning pedagogy and community-based learning.

  • Establishing, maintaining, and evaluating reciprocal partnerships with community organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, and public entities.

  • Coordinating data collection, assessment, and reporting related to service-learning courses, volunteer participation, and community engagement outcomes.

  • Overseeing student preparation for off-campus engagement activities, including orientation, reflection, and adherence to risk management practices.

  • Managing the Center's operating budget and supervising professional staff and student employees.

  • Collaborating with campus partners and serving on divisional or institutional committees as assigned.

Salary: $72,000 - $77,000 commensurate with experience. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer. Information on SUNY's comprehensive benefits offerings can be found at https://www.suny.edu/benefits. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in community engagement, service learning, volunteer management, student affairs, or a related functional area.

Additional:

  • Experience supervising professional staff and/or student employees.

  • Experience collaborating with faculty, academic departments, and campus partners.

  • Experience with assessment, reporting, or evaluation of student learning or community-based initiatives.

  • Experience coordinating complex programs or initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Education, Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

  • Experience working in a public higher education environment, preferably within the SUNY System.

  • Experience or familiarity with service-learning pedagogy, experiential learning frameworks, or academic course designation processes.

  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
