SUNY Oneonta invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Academic Advisement. This is an exciting opportunity for a student-centered professional to contribute to institutional priorities related to student success, retention, and timely degree completion.
The Associate Director holds a leadership role responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and ongoing evaluation of undergraduate advising efforts. The position contributes to institutional initiatives that strengthen advising effectiveness, collaborates with faculty and campus partners on advising-related priorities, and supports strategies that enhance student progress toward academic goals.
The Academic Advisement Center at SUNY Oneonta provides timely and accurate academic guidance to undergraduate students from acceptance through graduation. The Center collaborates with faculty and staff to support academic planning and promote student success, retention, and timely degree completion in alignment with the university's mission and core values.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Providing leadership and day-to-day oversight of academic advisement operations.
Collaborating with campus partners to support diverse student populations, including transfer and first-year students.
Supervising and mentoring professional and/or support staff.
Coordinating advising initiatives aligned with institutional goals, including retention and completion efforts.
Developing and delivering training for faculty and staff on advising best practices.
Supporting onboarding processes for new students, including orientation and first-semester course planning.
Representing Academic Advisement on select university committees.
Utilizing advising technologies (e.g., degree audit systems and student success platforms) to guide and monitor student progress.
Analyzing Advising data to inform continuous improvement and assessment efforts.
Assisting with the development and implementation of academic advisement policies and procedures.
Salary: $64,474 - $68,000 commensurate with experience. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer. Information on SUNY's comprehensive benefits offerings can be found at https://www.suny.edu/benefits. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
Experience in academic advisement or student support services within higher education.
Experience with student information systems and advising technologies.
Additional Qualifications:
Minimum of one year of experience at the assistant director level or higher.
Knowledge of student development theory and advising best practices.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
Supervisory or leadership experience.
Familiarity with degree planning and audit tools (e.g., DegreeWorks).
Experience supporting initiatives related to student retention, persistence, and completion.
Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
