CITY OF ONALASKA Groundskeeper in ONALASKA, Wisconsin
JOB REQUIREMENTS: The City of Onalaska is seeking a dedicated and dependable full-time Groundskeeper to join the Parks & Recreation Department. This position plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the City\'s parks, athletic fields, recreational facilities, aquatic center, and the Omni Center. Under the direction of the Park Manager, the Groundskeeper performs a wide range of maintenance, custodial, and operational duties to ensure City facilities are safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors. This position contributes directly to creating positive recreational experiences for the community. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Park & Grounds Maintenance Maintain parks and recreational areas, including mowing, irrigation, landscaping, and general upkeep Perform seasonal start-up and winterization of parks and facilities Prepare and maintain athletic fields for recreational programming Remove snow and ice from parking lots, walkways, and park roads Custodial & Facility Maintenance Perform custodial duties in public buildings and facilities, including: Cleaning floors, windows, walls, ceilings, and fixtures Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms (sinks, lavatories, urinals) Removing and disposing of trash Maintain records and submit maintenance reports for parks and the Aquatic Center Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles Aquatic Center Operations Maintain aquatic equipment including pumps, motors, filters, valves, and meters Maintain maintenance logs Assist with general pool maintenance operations Omni Center Support Assist with event setup and breakdown Prepare detailed setup/takedown sheets prior to events Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled Confirm room setups meet facility standards and client expectations Follow policies for scheduling ice time and events and communicate details to staff Flood and maintain ice skating rinks Customer Service & Team Support Respond to public inquiries and inform users of park rules and regulations Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Assist coworkers and complete special projects as assigned Support overall departmental operations as needed Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of related experience in a comparable work setting. Demonstrated dependability and strong work history. Valid driver\'s license with a good driving record. Compensation & Benefits: Starting wage for this non-exempt position: \$21.30 per hour. Increases to \$21.62 per hour in July 2026. Eligible for annual wage advancement upon approval. Benefits Include: Health insurance effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment. 2026 most affordable plan (Quartz West): \$225.36/month (single). \$554.72/month (family).
