Burns & McDonnell’s growing Water Practice is in search of a Senior Water/Wastewater Process Engineer. We are looking for highly driven employee‑owners with excellent client interaction skills who can manage and lead process design efforts for water or wastewater projects in either municipal or industrial settings. In this position, you will lead process design on projects ranging from treatment and conveyance systems to industrial water/wastewater treatment and utility systems.
Lead the process design and execution of municipal or industrial water and/or wastewater treatment projects, depending on background and project needs.
Perform day‑to‑day process technical work, project planning, and management of scope, schedule, and budget.
Develop critical project objectives and performance goals; interact with clients on technical matters as needed.
Support client development and technical sales, proposal preparation, and technical presentations; coordinate with regulatory agencies as applicable.
Expand career growth opportunities within a rapidly growing national water practice.
Plan, organize, and communicate project technical needs to department management; mentor junior staff.
Provide support to design‑build project deliveries for water and wastewater projects in collaboration with Burns & McDonnell’s Construction/Design‑Build group.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years process engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
Bachelor Degree in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years process engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
Master Degree in Chemical Engineering and 6 years process engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
Background in water or wastewater process engineering, including treatment systems, plant facilities, or industrial water utilities preferred.
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public clients is preferred. Existing relationships with local or statewide clients is a plus.
Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Strong computer skills include process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
Ability to travel.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
