Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Understand and adhere to all physicians' orders and laboratory requisition forms.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

  • Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script for accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy skills including blood draw and specimen collection.

  • Customer service proficiency.

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.

  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment is advantageous.

  • Strong communication skills.

Work Environment

The work environment involves a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, requiring adherence to safety standards. The role demands flexibility in handling various specimens and maintaining specimen integrity during transport. Professional attire suitable for a clinical environment is expected.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
