Job Title: Generator Field Service Technician
Job Description
The Generator Field Service Technician performs repairs, maintenance, and services on all makes and models of generator systems, with a primary focus on the person and Blue Star Power Systems generators. This role involves frequent travel within the region to customer sites across healthcare, commercial, industrial, and agricultural environments. The technician communicates directly with customers, provides high-quality field service, and continuously develops technical skills in electrical, mechanical, and power generation systems.
Responsibilities
Install, troubleshoot, and repair generators, automatic transfer switches, and related power generation products in the field.
Perform electrical troubleshooting and problem solving on AC and DC electrical systems.
Use or learn to use electrical wiring diagrams and schematics to diagnose and repair issues accurately.
Troubleshoot diesel, natural gas, and propane generator systems and present clear repair solutions to customers.
Perform scheduled annual inspections and full services on all makes, models, and sizes of generator systems, including load banking, lubrication services, fueling, and cooling system maintenance.
Travel outside the local area as needed to provide on-site services to customers in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and agricultural settings.
Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
Communicate clearly with customers and internal team members to provide updates, feedback, and recommendations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and company equipment to ensure professional representation and timely service.
Complete repairs thoroughly and efficiently after properly troubleshooting issues and confirming root causes.
Use computer programs, email, and common software tools to document work, access technical information, and communicate with the team.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in a field service or similar environment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair AC/DC electrical systems.
Ability to install, service, and repair generators and automatic transfer switches.
Capability to read or learn to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
Experience or familiarity with diesel, natural gas, and propane power generation systems.
Proficiency with computer programs including email, word processing, and PDF tools.
Previous knowledge and safe use of hand tools and power tools.
Strong verbal communication skills to provide clear feedback to customers and team members.
Ability to complete repairs independently after accurately diagnosing issues.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly to customer sites.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate degree or equivalent education in a related field.
Previous experience in diesel, power generation, or a closely related industry.
Strong organizational skills and attention to cleanliness and professional presentation.
Customer service mindset with a focus on responsiveness and reliability.
Comfort working in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and agricultural environments.
Interest in learning and expanding technical knowledge in power generation systems.

Work Environment
This is a field-based role with frequent travel to customer locations within the region, including healthcare, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sites. Work is primarily performed on-site at customer facilities, often in mechanical and electrical equipment areas where generators and related systems are installed. The technician uses a company-provided vehicle, phone, and laptop, along with a full range of hand tools and power tools, to perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance. The environment requires working around running engines, electrical equipment, and outdoor conditions at times, and calls for a professional appearance, organized work habits, and adherence to safety practices while traveling and working independently.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62000.00 - $93000.00/yr.
