Job Title: Sr. Network Security Engineer- Application Delivery & CDN

Job Location- Remote, USA

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Security Engineer to serve as a technical contributor and subject matter expert for enterprise application delivery and network security platforms.

This role is network‑security focused, with mandatory depth in Content Delivery Networks (CDN), Web Application Firewalls (WAF), bot protection, and cloud‑based edge security.

The position is responsible for the engineering, operation, optimization, and security of load balancers, WAFs, CDNs, and edge platforms across on‑premises and major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP). Cybersecurity and CDN expertise are non‑negotiable requirements.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of hands‑on experience, a security‑first mindset, and proven ability to operate in complex, high‑availability, enterprise environments.

In this role, you will

· Act as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for application delivery and network security platforms , including Load Balancers, WAF, Shape Bot Protection, and CDN/edge solutions .

· Perform hands‑on engineering, configuration, maintenance, tuning, and optimization of application delivery and security platforms across on‑premises, hybrid, and cloud environments .

· Design, implement, and manage Web Application Firewall (WAF) threat signatures , bot mitigation policies , and edge security controls .

· Engineer and support CDN solutions to ensure application performance, availability, and protection at scale.

· Leverage major cloud providers’ native console tools ( AWS, Azure, GCP ) for networking, security, load balancing, and edge services.

· Collaborate closely with Network, Security, Cloud, and Application teams to ensure architectural alignment, continuity, and effective incident response.

· Lead capacity planning, forecasting, and architectural decisions to enable scalable, resilient, and secure application delivery.

· Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and application issues across OSI layers 1–7 , delivering timely root‑cause analysis and remediation.

· Apply risk‑based security decision‑making to protect proprietary, personal, and privileged data.

· Implement and maintain best practices for:

o WAF and load balancer configurations

o SSL/TLS and certificate management

o Change control, monitoring, logging, and documentation

· Support security audits and compliance initiatives , including evidence gathering, documentation, and remediation activities.

· Participate in a rotational on‑call schedule , responding to high‑priority incidents within defined SLAs and supporting after‑hours changes when required.

What you’ll need to succeed (required skills)

· Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering , or equivalent practical experience.

· 7+ years of hands‑on experience in Network Security , with a strong focus on application delivery and edge security .

· 7+ years of experience with Web Application Firewalls (WAF) , including:

  • Threat signatures

  • Policy tuning

  • OWASP Top 10 protections

· 7+ years of experience with Digital Certificates and SSL/TLS , including:

  • Certificate lifecycle management

  • SSL/TLS encryption

  • SSL offloading

· 7+ years of experience with Content Delivery Networks (CDN)mandatory , including performance optimization and security integration.

· 7+ years of scripting and automation experience to improve operational efficiency (e.g., Python, Bash, API‑based automation).

· Mandatory experience with CDN and edge security platforms , including:

  • Cloudflare

  • Akamai

  • F5 Distributed Cloud (XC)

· Strong hands‑on expertise with load balancers and WAF platforms , such as:

  • F5 (LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM/AWAF, SSLO)

  • A10, AVI, Citrix, or equivalent

· Proven experience supporting applications in AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using native cloud networking and security consoles .

· Strong understanding of:

  • HTTP/HTTPS traffic flows

  • DNS, TCP/IP, switching, and routing

  • Application and network security principles

Preferred skills: what will help you stand out

· Hands‑on experience with Shape Bot Protection and advanced bot mitigation strategies.

· Deep familiarity with Cloudflare and Akamai security features , including DDoS protection, bot management, and WAF rule tuning.

· Experience integrating CDN, WAF, and cloud load‑balancing services into enterprise architectures.

· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a security‑first mindset .

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical topics to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Working Conditions (MANDATORY)

· Participation in an on‑call rotation (approximately one week every four weeks).

· Occasional after‑hours, night, or weekend work for scheduled maintenance, upgrades, or emergency incidents.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
