The Role
The Senior Lead IT Engineer is a technical leadership role responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and strategic direction of Lumen’s Software Asset Management (SAM) tools. This role serves as a subject matter expert and technical lead, driving stability, scalability, and security across critical infrastructure platforms, with a strong emphasis on Flexera One administration and server-based agent technologies. The Senior Lead IT Engineer partners closely with architecture, security, asset management, and operations teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and cost-effective IT solutions.

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.
The Main Responsibilities
Administer, optimize, and support Flexera One / FlexNet Manager Suite (FNMS), SaaS Manager, and related Software Asset Management (SAM) tooling.
FNMS Agent Administration, including deployment, configuration, monitoring, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
Collaborate with Software Asset Management (SAM), Security, and Compliance teams to ensure accurate inventory, license compliance, and audit readiness.
Design and maintain server and agent-based architectures to support performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex infrastructure and agent-related incidents.
Serve as the technical lead for enterprise IT engineering initiatives, providing guidance, mentorship, and architectural direction.
Develop and enforce engineering standards, documentation, and operational runbooks.
Evaluate and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
Support change management activities, including impact analysis, testing, and deployment planning.
Assist in driving roadmap planning, technology evaluations, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering roles.
Demonstrated hands-on expertise in SAM Tool Administration, including inventory, reconciliation, reporting, and integrations.
Strong experience with Server Agent Administration across all variations of Windows and Linux environments.
Deep understanding of server infrastructure, operating systems, and enterprise monitoring tools.
Experience supporting large-scale, distributed environments.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex, cross-platform issues.
Proficiency with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working with ITSM processes (incident, problem, change, and configuration management).
Act as a trusted technical advisor and escalation point.
Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Software Asset Management (SAM) and IT Asset Management (ITAM) practices.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid environments.
Experience with configuration management and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, SCCM, Intune, Chef, or Puppet).
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$132,232 - $176,310 in these states: AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY
$138,844 - $185,124 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI
$145,456 - $193,940 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
