Maintenance Technician - 1st Shift $26 - $32 an hour We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment used in steel fabrication. This role requires a proactive individual with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, as well as a solid understanding of safety practices in an industrial setting. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance on building systems, machinery and equipment, including welding machines, cutting tools, and other fabrication equipment. Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues of machines and systems and perform repairs or coordinate with external vendors when necessary to minimize downtime. Execute preventive maintenance schedules to ensure all equipment is functioning optimally and to prevent unexpected breakdowns. Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Identify and address potential safety hazards associated with maintenance. Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools required for maintenance tasks. Order parts and materials as needed to ensure minimal disruption to operations. Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, parts used, and time spent on each task. Update equipment manuals and maintenance logs as required. Work closely with production teams to schedule maintenance activities during downtime and provide technical support when needed. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the maintenance program. Be available to respond to emergency breakdowns and work overtime or on-call as necessary to minimize production disruptions. Adjust, repair, and rebuild machines and components such as conveyors, gear boxes, clutch assemblies, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, etc. Operate basic machine tools such as mills, lathes, and grinders to make and modify parts as needed. Dismantle, transport, assemble, and re-align relocated and new equipment and machines. Move and organize materials, equipment, furniture, fixtures, etc. Assist OEM representatives in the installation of new equipment. Perform periodic inspection and maintenance on cranes, hoists, cables, hooks, and chains. Replace parts and cables as necessary. Perform simple rigging operations and occasional heavy or complex rigging. Erect fabricated steel structures such as platforms, structures, catwalks, and jib/pedestal hoists. Operate forklifts, cranes, and man-lifts as necessary. Climb ladders and work at height. Perform minor structural welding. Lubricate equipment. Collect and properly dispose of waste materials such as wood, cardboard, oils and coolants. Operate and maintain portable and shop air compressors. Repair, install, and remove facility piping, including water, air, and gas. Maintain good housekeeping by cleaning and organizing work areas. Follow safe working practices. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications and Skills: HS diploma or GED required Minimum 3-5 years experience working in an industrial environment required Journeyman certificate or equivalent industrial experience is preferred Experience maintaining industrial equipment is preferred Good organizational skills. Understanding of typical repair and maintenance tasks and the ability to estimate labor time and materials. Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Able to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, schematics, and drawings. Experience with welding equipment, CNC machines, hydraulic systems, and PLCs is a plus. Use basic hand and power tools.
