Garmin Lead IT Enterprise Network Engineer in Olathe, Kansas
Overview
We are seeking a full-time Lead IT Enterprise Network Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. This role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of our enterprise network infrastructure, with a primary focus on enterprise wireless networking, including architecture, performance optimization, and security, while also supporting campus switching and network access control.
Essential Functions
Leads the design, deployment, and optimization of enterprise wireless networks, including coverage, capacity planning, performance tuning, and security
Defines and drives the enterprise networking roadmap with a primary focus on wireless architecture, while aligning with broader campus networking strategies
Serves as a subject matter expert in wireless and campus networking technologies (e.g., enterprise WLAN, network access control, segmentation), applying deep technical expertise to complex initiatives
Leads troubleshooting of major network incidents, with emphasis on wireless performance, client connectivity, and end-user experience across multiple disciplines
Develops reliable, scalable solutions to complex networking challenges, requiring creativity and advanced problem-solving
Mentors and provides technical guidance to IT Administrators and junior engineers, particularly in wireless and enterprise networking best practices
Evaluates emerging networking technologies and proposes cost-effective solutions to enhance wireless capabilities and overall network performance
Drives innovation within enterprise networking, facilitating team discussions, leading change initiatives, and coordinating non-project network improvements
Demonstrates a strong understanding of business operations to align network (especially wireless) performance, reliability, and security with organizational needs
Contributes to broader infrastructure and technology discussions beyond networking, providing input on cross-functional solutions
Demonstrates professional maturity through effective communication, collaboration, and giving/receiving constructive feedback
Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales and Marketing
Recognized as an expert in assigned discipline at Garmin and applies extensive technical expertise and analysis to initiatives

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience
Proven expertise in enterprise networking, with a strong emphasis on designing, deploying, and supporting large-scale wireless environments
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation to support network operations and ensure timely response to critical incidents
Hands-on experience with enterprise wireless technologies, including Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC), access points, RF design, and performance optimization
Experience with network access control and policy enforcement solutions such as Cisco ISE, including authentication, authorization, and segmentation
Strong experience with campus networking technologies, including Cisco Catalyst (IOS-XE) switching and enterprise routing platforms (ISR/ASR)
Solid understanding of routing and switching protocols, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, and port-channeling
Proven experience in an operations-focused environment, with a strong emphasis on real-time troubleshooting, incident response, and restoring service in complex enterprise networks (especially wireless)
Experience using network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, Syslog, wireless analytics tools)
Knowledge of network security concepts, including segmentation, ACLs, VPNs (IPSec), and secure wireless design (802.1X, WPA2/3)
Experience evaluating and implementing new networking technologies, including centralized management and automation platforms (e.g., Cisco DNA Center)
Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to document and organize work effectively
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing proactive improvements with reactive operational support
Desired Qualifications
Cisco certifications such as CCNP Enterprise (Wireless preferred) or higher
Experience with Cisco DNA Center, wireless automation, and assurance/analytics platforms
Experience with SD-WAN technologies (e.g., Cisco SD-WAN/Viptela)
Previous experience in a technical leadership or mentoring role
