Garmin Global Commodity Manager - Electrical in Olathe, Kansas
Overview
We are seeking a full-time Global Commodity Manager - Electrical at Garmin’s U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this Technical Supply Chain role, you will be responsible for partnering closely with Engineering, Manufacturing and Suppliers to ensure innovative products are supported by scalable, cost-effective, and strategic supply chain strategies.
Essential Functions
Own and develop global commodity strategies for electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical components, including sourcing strategy, supplier selection, and long-term capacity planning
Serve as a technical bridge between Engineering and Supply Chain, applying electrical engineering knowledge to supplier capability assessments, design tradeoffs, and cost models
Lead multi-site sourcing initiatives, negotiations, and contract execution to drive improvements in cost, quality, delivery, and service.
Analyze component-level cost structures (BOMs, labor, materials, tooling) to identify cost-reduction and value-engineering opportunities
Partner with New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to ensure components are sourced, qualified, and available for prototype and production builds
Evaluate and onboard new suppliers and technologies, including conducting technical audits, capability assessments, and risk analysis
Support root cause analysis and corrective action related to supplier quality, delivery, or technical performance
Lead and facilitate cross-functional teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Operations to execute commodity strategies
Prepare and lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and strategic negotiations with key suppliers
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and related supply chain experience
Demonstrated experience managing electrical or electronic commodities
Strong understanding of electrical components, electro-mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing processes
Ability to analyze technical and commercial tradeoffs and translate engineering requirements into sourcing strategies
Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, negotiating, presenting and analytical skills
Must demonstrate a proven track record to prioritize, organize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment to effectively meet deadlines across multiple time zones
Demonstrated proficient knowledge of the workings of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
Must possess demonstrated knowledgeable of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII)/Master Production Schedule (MPS) process
Demonstrated significant technical knowledge within the commodity managed
Demonstrated extensive experience assessing requirements, negotiating and executing supply contracts and/or service agreements with a focus on maximizing PPV
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Demonstrated extensive experience assessing all supply chain attributes with a focus on maximizing PPV over long term programs
Must demonstrate a proven knowledge and understanding of the global markets that impact the managed commodity
Must demonstrate the ability to understand, analyze and use components of costs in driving cost savings and efficiencies
Ability to quickly and efficiently identify new sources and technologies as requested by Engineering Design teams and perform advanced due diligence including technical capabilities, audits, commercial assessments, supply chain verification, capacity constraints and establishing a preferred customer status
Demonstrated ability to prepare for, coordinate, manage and execute QBR’s and Quarterly Negotiations
Demonstrates proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications
Master’s Degree in an engineering field
Multilingual
Previous experience in an electronics manufacturing environment
