Garmin Design Certification Engineer 1 - Systems Safety in Olathe, Kansas
Overview
We are seeking a full-time Design Certification Engineer 1 – Systems Safety at Garmin’s U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the system safety assessment process and generating the required analyses in support of Garmin OEM customers.
Essential Functions
Perform unit level safety analysis and requirement generation
Interface and coordinate with OEM customers to provide system safety knowledge and documentation for Garmin systems and LRUs
Perform qualitative analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and common cause analyses as required to support OEM certification needs
Interface with Hardware, Software and EMC groups to ensure appropriate design assurance levels are considered
Coordinate internal Garmin groups to communicate safety assessment requirements
Balance multiple projects and work with multidisciplinary teams
Draft and submit certification documentation required by TSOs and other regulatory standards to the appropriate certification authority
Lead project engineering teams in executing projects according to development processes to ensure compliance with all applicable certification requirements
Use project management skills to coordinate project schedules and deliverables per aviation processes
Perform unit level safety and security analysis and requirement generation
Coordinate technical compliance documentation and testing for applicable local, national, and international standards and regulations (e.g. FCC, CE, ANATEL, RED, EAR)
Contribute to project engineering teams to design, validate, and verify aviation projects
Organize and guide project testing and document results in test reports
Update Garmin’s processes and products for new regulations, enhanced safety and security requirements, and improved efficiency
Contribute to product concept and development plans through collaboration with design engineering teams
Balance multiple projects and work with multidisciplinary teams
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, or another similar technical degree
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
Must possess demonstrated knowledge, education, and/or training of basic circuits (Digital, FPGA, Analog and/or RF)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others, ensuring successful achievement of company goals
Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Aviation-related experience
Knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to avionics and flight controls certification efforts particularly those associated with system safety such as 23.1309/23.2510
Knowledge of AC 23/25.1309 and SAE ARPs 4761 and 4754
Pilot's License
