Job Title: Construction Laborer – Erosion Control
Job Description
This role focuses on installing and maintaining erosion control systems on commercial construction sites while supporting site safety, cleanliness, and efficient project delivery. You will work outdoors year-round, operate a variety of equipment and hand tools, and contribute to the successful completion of large-scale projects, including data center work.
Responsibilities
Install and maintain erosion control devices, including silt fences, erosion control blankets, wattles, mulch bags, and other Best Management Practices (BMPs).
Operate construction and landscaping equipment such as tractors and skid steers in a safe and efficient manner.
Use hand tools and power tools, including shovels, staple guns, utility knives, and similar equipment, to complete daily tasks.
Ensure all erosion control installations and related work meet site specifications, project plans, and safety standards.
Maintain a clean, organized job site by properly storing, cleaning, and caring for tools, equipment, and materials.
Follow all site safety protocols and report any hazards, incidents, or equipment issues promptly.
Interact professionally and respectfully with clients, contractors, inspectors, and team members on active job sites.
Assist with small crews on erosion control and related tasks, with the opportunity to eventually lead small crews as skills and experience grow.
Support general construction and landscaping activities as needed, including heavy lifting and material handling.
Travel from the home base to various project sites as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support project schedules and team objectives.
Essential Skills
Experience with construction general labor in commercial construction or similar field-based work.
Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
Hands-on experience with landscaping tasks and outdoor site work.
Proficiency in using hand tools such as shovels, staple guns, utility knives, and similar tools.
Ability to operate or learn to operate equipment such as tractors and skid steers safely.
Comfort working with erosion control materials, including silt fence, erosion control blankets, wattles, and mulch bags.
Strong commitment to safety and adherence to job site safety standards and procedures.
Reliability to work the scheduled shift of 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (or until the job is done), including flexibility to stay until tasks are completed.
Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
Effective teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly with crew members and site personnel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required.
Experience with power tools used in construction and landscaping environments.
Familiarity with erosion control Best Management Practices (BMPs) and their application on commercial job sites.
Prior experience on commercial construction or data center projects is a plus.
Interest in developing leadership skills with the potential to lead small crews over time.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different project sites from the Olathe, KS area is beneficial.

Work Environment
This position is based out of the Olathe, KS area with regular travel to various project sites. Work takes place outdoors year-round, so you should be prepared to work in a range of weather conditions and on active commercial construction sites. The typical shift runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the expectation to stay until the job is done when needed. You will regularly use and be around construction and landscaping equipment such as tractors, skid steers, and a variety of hand and power tools. The environment is physically demanding, hands-on, and safety-focused, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, organized job site and properly caring for tools and equipment. Appropriate workwear suitable for outdoor construction and varying weather conditions is expected.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
