About the Opportunity
This is for an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The SPANS (Spatially-Enabled Permitting and Notification System) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating required communications between FirstEnergy and foreign utilities, supporting joint ownership and ILEC space coordination, managing joint use contract billing, resolving two-pole conditions, and providing joint use support for Energy Delivery design engineering projects.
The preferred reporting location for this position is within the Cleveland Electric Illuminating company service territory; however, other Ohio service territory locations will be considered.
Responsibilities include:
Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
Providing critical support to business units (e.g., Business Services, Legal, Property Accounting, Claims) related to pole-attachment topics within the Ohio operating companies.
Communicating state/federal law, company practices, construction standards, contractual agreements, MOUs, amendments, and the NESC to identify risks to stakeholders supporting Ohio Energy Delivery projects.
Analyzing engineering and construction joint use data and support efforts to reduce backlog and enhance joint use compliance.
Ensuring compliance with all Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and regulatory requirements.
Reviewing daily QlikView reports to update construction proposals and completing CREWS requirements.
Reviewing outgoing Spatially-Enabled Permitting and Notification System (SPANS) proposals for accuracy and consistency.
Monitoring Crews Personal Work Queue for requests needing proposals or reflecting completed work.
Responding to proposals returned from foreign companies.
Creating APLPL notifications in SAP.
Performing miscellaneous and Set/Sell billing annually or quarterly.
Serving as a SPANS subject-matter expert for designers and foreign companies.
Responding to all inquiries regarding two-pole complaints from Claims, PUCO, and External Affairs.
Analyzing engineering and construction backlog data and publish quarterly E&C Backlog report, supporting regional Line/Engineering resource sourcing.
Preparing timely and accurate responses to data requests and ad hoc reporting needs.
Providing assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline and 0 to 4 years related work experience are required.
OR high school diploma or equivalent and minimum 2 to 5 years related work experience are required. Related work experience includes knowledge of planning/scheduling of work, construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
Develops knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC), and Customer Guide for Electric Services (CGES).
Understands the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and Manual of Operations and its practical application in the workplace.
Self-motivated and able to balance competing priorities.
Delivers high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Possesses solid verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Outlook, SAP, GIS, Crews, SPANS, and database query tools.
Access to a personal vehicle for travel to various facilities; valid driver’s license required.

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.
The estimated pay range for this role is $59,000 - $93,000.
