Accounting & Financial Manager
Location: Ogden, Utah | Type: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $70,000
The Ogden Nature Center is seeking a skilled Accounting & Financial Manager to oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Accounting & Financial Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Ogden Nature Center, ensuring strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and accurate financial reporting. This role supports strategic decision-making by providing timely financial insights, maintaining financial systems, and leading audit and reporting processes.
This role partners closely with the Executive Director and the Board Finance Committee to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights that support long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
Record all financial transactions including income, receipts, accounts payable, and cash disbursements, in a timely and accurate manner
Process invoices and issue payments (checks/ electronic) promptly
Reconcile and allocate employee credit card expenses across programs
Maintain petty cash and ensure proper documentation
Manage organizational cash flow, monitor balances, and coordinate fund transfers with the Executive Director
Maintain and safeguard financial records
Payroll & Compliance
Process payroll tax deposits and file required quarterly and annual payroll reports
Prepare and file sales tax reimbursement requests
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulations (GAAP, IRS, Utah State)
Maintain and enforce financial controls and policies
Process semi-monthly and payroll tax filings
Prepare W-2s, 1099s, and manage simple IRA contributions
Reporting & Forecasting
Prepare monthly financial reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors Finance Committee.
Provide quarterly financial reports for department directors.
Develop and maintain annual financial forecasts and cash flow projections
Produce financial reports for donors, foundations, and internal stakeholders as needed
Generate and share internal expense reports with program leadership
Systems & Process Improvement
Oversee financial systems and recommend improvements, integrations and efficiencies to support organizational needs
Audit & External Reporting
Coordinate the annual audit, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation. Serves as liaison with the external auditors
Oversee preparation and filing of Form 990
Maintain organized financial documentation to support audit and compliance requirements
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Minimal 3-5years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably including full-cycle non-profit accounting
Experience with accounting software and financial systems (i.e. Aplos, Xero, Cyma, QuickBooks, etc.)
Proficiency in payroll and tax reporting requirements
Knowledge of grant reporting and compliance.
Self-motivated, organized, and able to produce work independently.
Strong time management skills with the ability to man ge multiple deadlines and work collaboratively with other teams.
High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, organization and ability to manage multiple priorities
Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends, including outdoor events in various weather conditions. Flex time is provided.
Preferred Skills
Experience in integrating financial systems with CRM and payment platforms (i.e. Stripe, Square, etc.)
Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial staff and board members
Experience supporting audits and working with external accountants
