Maintenance Foreman
Job Description
The Maintenance Foreman leads a maintenance team in a modern industrial manufacturing facility, ensuring that equipment operates reliably and efficiently to support production. This role plans and supervises routine and preventive maintenance, responds to unexpected breakdowns, and drives continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with engineering, production, and site leadership. The Maintenance Foreman provides hands-on leadership, mentoring, and performance guidance to the maintenance team while supporting safe, high-quality, and timely operations across the site.
Responsibilities
Supervise and schedule the maintenance team on a rotating basis to align with production schedules and operational needs.
Ensure all routine and planned preventive maintenance activities are completed on time and according to established programs.
Coordinate and ensure that maintenance personnel are available to respond promptly to unexpected equipment breakdowns and operational issues.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and facility performance, and work with the maintenance team, engineering design team, and management to implement those improvements.
Use leadership experience to mentor maintenance employees, provide coaching and feedback, and address performance issues in a constructive manner.
Foster a culture of engagement, safety, and accountability so team members remain focused on completing assigned tasks effectively and efficiently.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and other site teams on improvement projects related to buildings, equipment, and yard infrastructure across the entire site.
Oversee maintenance supervision activities for industrial machinery, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
Support and uphold preventive maintenance programs, ensuring accurate execution, documentation, and continuous optimization.
Work closely with site leadership to plan maintenance during peak and off-peak seasons to minimize downtime and support 24/7 operations when required.
Essential Skills
2–3 years of leadership experience supervising a small team within a maintenance environment.
Strong experience in preventive maintenance and preventive maintenance programs for industrial equipment.
Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial machinery issues.
Experience with industrial electronics and controls in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Previous experience applying lean manufacturing concepts in an industrial environment.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate maintenance technicians and related activities.
Effective communication and leadership skills to mentor, guide, and engage team members.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, production, and site management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Licensed Journeyman in Industrial Mechanics is considered an asset.
Experience working in a large-scale industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing facility.
Familiarity with automated mixing, conveying, bulk handling, and packaging systems.
experience in maintenance supervision within a 24/7 or multi-shift operation.
Comfort working with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment
The role is based at a large-scale horticultural mixing and processing plant that produces peat-based growing media for professional agriculture and greenhouse use. The facility operates as an industrial and agricultural manufacturing site year-round and serves as a key production plant in Western Canada. The site utilizes Canadian peat moss along with automated mixing and packaging systems. Core equipment includes peat screening and processing equipment, industrial mixing systems, conveying and bulk handling equipment, and automated bagging and packaging lines. The facility runs extensive production operations, operating 24/7 during peak season and using four shifts in the summer. This position typically works Monday to Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (10-hour days), with overtime paid at 1.5 times after 8 hours. The Maintenance Foreman reports to the Production Supervisor and oversees Team Leaders within the operation. The environment is industrial, fast-paced, and hands-on, with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and supporting continuous production

The pay range for this position is $76960.00 - $104000.00/yr.
