Commander, Navy Installations Supervisory Recreation Specialist in Oak Harbor, Washington
Summary Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. Responsibilities Oversee the growth, development, marketing and day-to-day operations of the Liberty Programs. Develop, organize, implement and evaluate recurring and non-recurring activities which include but are not limited to classes, trips, tournaments, outreach opportunities, special events, and skills development. Implements procedures to assure health and safety programs are in compliance with safety regulations and follow current industry standards. Resolve customer complaints and solicit feedback to improve the quality of services rendered. Utilizes patron surveys and track results for program improvement. Maintain telephone, email and personal contacts with command representatives, industry professionals, equipment representatives, special interest groups, local community, area clubs, and civic organizations. Prepare and justify annual and quarterly operating budgets for the Liberty Program. Preparation requires a needs assessment of population served, inclusion of projected payroll and training expenses, allowing purchasing, upkeep of facilities/offices, program expenses, and projected supply needs, contractual expenses, and other SAP line items. Tracks and accounts for Credit Card purchases maintain up-to-date records and proper documentation.. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Must be able to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR within the first 90 days in the position Must be a U.S. Citizen to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance. Must possess a valid driver's license Must be able to obtain a food handler's permit and Controlling Alcohol Risk Effectively (CARE) certificate Frequent physical exertion while instructing or guiding participants in a variety of activities Work may require sitting, walking, standing for long periods of time, bending and lifting up to 40 pounds Work may require working outside for special events or leading outdoor group outings or trips Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off, evenings, weekends and holidays Qualifications Knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of procedure used in organizing, planning, administering, and conducting a wide variety of recreation activities. Must have a strong understanding of the scope of recreational activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests. Must be an innovative and capable leader and able to perform duties with limited supervision. Possess a customer-oriented personality to include tact and diplomacy in order to communicate with both personnel and patrons. Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with targeted 18-24-year-old group of single military personnel, advisory groups, MWR and community program personnel, and local community program representatives and vendors. Must be able to operate a computer and have an in-depth knowledge of software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, etc. Must be able to make sound decisions and exercise good judgement. Education Must have one of the following: Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or closely related field A minimum of three years of specialized experience in recreation programming Combination education and experience in recreation programming If claiming education in place of specialized experience, you must include your transcripts in your application in order to be considered for this position.
