The Opportunity
The Painter would be responsible for applying paint and other coatings to our fabricated metal parts, using different painting tools, equipment, and methods within the department. You would also perform final quality checks on finished product before they leave the work area.
There will be a requirement for training on the day shift. Once the training is completed, the position will move to the evening shift, which includes a $2.00 per hour shift premium.
Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints
Application of protective coatings to general metal products
Maintenance of paint equipment including booth, spray pump, hoses, spray guns, lifting devices such as, chains and slings, and identifying needed repairs with the Evening Shift Supervisor
Read, understand, and follow work instructions and work with the Evening Shift Supervisor and other team members to resolve concerns
Be knowledgeable of all shop safe work procedures, and ensure that those applicable to the finishing area are being followed
Wear Personal Protective Equipment when performing paint mixing, painting, and cleaning tools and equipment. This includes steel toed CSA work boots, hearing protection, tyvex painting suits, and respirators with supplied air or organic cartridges.
Keep work area tidy and perform general housekeeping such as, sweeping, and ensure that the space is organized for the next shift
Receive and store paint products in appropriate locations
Other duties as assigned
Some overtime may be required
Qualifications
1-2 Years working within a production and/or manufacturing environment
Previous experience in a painting role
Experience with different coating processes, equipment, and application methods
Knowledge of quality control practices
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
High level of English reading, writing, and comprehension skills
Ability to work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, company rules, policies, and procedures
Previous experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing would be considered an asset
