The Role
Mexico Manager of Automotive Software Engineering – Advanced Energy Storage
The Advanced Energy Storage Software Team at Clarios is seeking a MAnager of Automotive Software Engineering to lead and scale a high-performing embedded software organization in Mexico. This role is responsible for building a new engineering hub and driving the development of next-generation battery management software for future mobility solutions.
You will play a critical role in shaping technical strategy, engineering excellence, and organizational culture while partnering with global teams to deliver innovative, safety-critical automotive systems.
What You’ll Do (Impact Areas)
Engineering Leadership & Talent Development
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of embedded software engineers in a distributed environment
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Act as a technical leader and coach, guiding teams through complex design and problem-solving challenges
Technical Strategy & Execution
Own the end-to-end development of embedded software (base software, middleware, diagnostics, and application layers)
Provide hands-on technical leadership through code reviews, debugging, prototyping, and system integration
Ensure robust development environments, tools, and system-level solutions are in place
Drive compliance with automotive standards including ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO/SAE 21434
Engineering Infrastructure & Process Excellence
Establish foundational engineering capabilities for a new development site, including:
Development environments and toolchains
CI/CD pipelines tailored for embedded systems
Software lifecycle processes, coding standards, and workflows
Integration and validation frameworks (SIL, HIL, bench testing)
Partner with product, architecture, and quality teams to align with global engineering standards
Global Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with global product teams, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders
Serve as the primary interface between the Mexico engineering hub and global organizations
Navigate cross-cultural environments effectively, ensuring alignment across time zones and teams
Requirements Engineering & System Integration
Lead software requirements engineering activities for advanced battery systems
Translate customer specifications into structured software requirements and system architectures
Ensure full traceability of requirements across the development lifecycle
Collaborate with systems, hardware, and modeling teams to develop algorithms and diagnostics
Support software architecture definition, design reviews, and test strategy validation
Operational Excellence & Delivery
Translate ambiguous or high-level objectives into structured execution plans
Drive clarity, identify gaps, and implement scalable solutions in evolving environments
Lead change control processes, impact analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives

What You Bring (Qualifications)
Required
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
10+ years of experience in embedded software development for safety-critical systems
5+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role
Proven experience in automotive or mobility-related industries
Strong experience with software requirements engineering and systems integration
Demonstrated ability to build teams and operate in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments
Advanced English communication skills (written and verbal)
Preferred
Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
Strong knowledge of ASPICE processes and compliance
Experience with functional safety and cybersecurity standards (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434)
Familiarity with tools such as Jira, IBM DOORS, Jama, and UML-based design tools
Experience with AUTOSAR (e.g., Vector DaVinci)
Experience with model-based development tools (MathWorks, TargetLink)
Knowledge of verification tools (QAC, Cantata)
Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN)
Familiarity with Vector tools (CANoe, CANape, CANalyzer)
Experience leading distributed or remote engineering teams
Work Model & Travel
Location: Mexico (hybrid or on-site at the Mexico Development Center, depending on business needs)
Travel: Occasional international travel to collaborate with global teams and stakeholders
