Linnaeus Veterinary Surgeon - Maternity Cover in Northampton, United Kingdom

Veterinary Surgeon (Fixed Term Contract – 12 months)

Location: Northampton

Hours: 40 hours per week | 1:4 Saturdays (5-hours) | No OOH

Practice: Spinney Vets

Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum depending on experience

Relocation: Up to £5,000 available

Spinney Vets in Northampton are looking for a friendly and confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our established team on a 12-month fixed term contract, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

• Flexible 40-hour week with no out-of-hours and only one half-day Saturday per month

The team and practice

You’ll be joining a friendly and collaborative team of Veterinary Surgeons, Nurses, Patient Care Assistants and Customer Care colleagues who work closely together to deliver excellent patient care.

Spinney Vets operates across two large RCVS GP-accredited branches, both well equipped and designed to support high-quality clinical work. The practice performs a wide range of procedures including orthopaedics, endoscopy, laparoscopy and more advanced routine soft tissue surgeries such as BOAS procedures.

Professional development is actively encouraged. Our nursing team is also expanding its clinical responsibilities, enabling the whole practice team to work to their full potential and provide the best possible care to patients.

Northampton is a vibrant town with excellent road and rail connections, placing London and Birmingham within around an hour. The surrounding area offers beautiful countryside, country parks and charming villages, ideal for dog walking, cycling and weekend adventures.

The town itself also offers a lively social scene with a wide range of restaurants, cafés and pubs, alongside good schools and community amenities, making it a fantastic location for both young professionals and families.

What we’re looking for

• RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon

• Confident with routine consultations and general surgery

• A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from colleagues

• Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues

• An interest in developing clinical interests and pursuing further training

A minimum of 2 years UK experience is advantageous but not essential.

About us

Spinney Vets is made up of two large branches, recently refurbished. The main branch is equipped with everything you would expect, including new ultrasound, endoscopy, digital x-ray and laparoscopy, alongside being equipped for orthopaedic surgery and having two wonderful surgical certificate holders on the team. We welcome applications from those with specific interests and are supportive of further studies. Northampton is a large town with great road and rail links to both London and Birmingham within one hour. There is beautiful countryside on the doorstep, the town itself is surrounded by pretty villages with an abundance of country parks and pleasant places for dog walking, running, hiking, or cycling. The local area has a wide range of great pubs and restaurants that the team often enjoy together.
