  • DURATION: 4 month contract with potential for extension or conversion

Role Overview

This role focuses on designing and implementing scalable manufacturing solutions that transition complex mechanical products and assemblies, transitioning fabrication‑level designs into high‑volume production. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will partner closely with design, quality, supply chain, and contract manufacturing teams to ensure products meet cost, quality, reliability, and scalability targets.

The role leads DFM/DFA efforts, supplier qualification, and New Product Introduction (NPI) execution, including manufacturing process controls, PFMEA, and structured root cause analysis in a fast‑paced, high‑impact manufacturing environment.

This position directly supports the successful industrialization of new products by reducing risk, improving quality and yields, and enabling faster product launches. The work strengthens supply chain resilience and delivers predictable, scalable production outcomes for internal stakeholders and end customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical fabrication and assembly, including sheet metal parts, welded structures, fit‑up, and alignment.

  • Work directly with fabrication suppliers to resolve build issues, improve manufacturability, and execute aggressive NPI timelines.

  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFA) principles to improve manufacturability and scalability.

  • Lead supplier qualification, capability assessments, and readiness reviews.

  • Develop and validate manufacturing and test processes for NPI.

  • Support NPI execution from early builds through full production ramp.

  • Identify and resolve production issues using structured root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with design, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing teams.

  • Support global manufacturing operations and occasional supplier travel.

MUST HAVES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years of experience applying manufacturing engineering principles including DFM/DFA at the fabrication level, FMEA review, and NPI execution.

  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical fabrication and assembly, including sheet metal fabrication, welding, fitment, alignment, and heavy mechanical assemblies.

  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and fabrication suppliers, including qualification, execution ownership, and ongoing relationship management.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing quality concepts and process controls as applied in fast‑paced fabrication environments.

  • Direct experience working in fabrication or shop‑floor environments, not limited to design reviews or documentation.

  • Proficiency in root cause investigation and corrective action for mechanical fabrication and assembly issues.

  • Proficient with CAD tools and interpretation of fabrication and assembly drawings.

  • Demonstrated process‑improvement mindset with the ability to operate effectively in time‑driven, execution‑focused manufacturing environments.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

  • Experience supporting mechanical systems, frames, or structural assemblies in robotics, industrial equipment, or automation environments.

  • Experience leading or owning NPI execution from prototype through production ramp.

  • Experience in high‑volume or advanced manufacturing environments (robotics, industrial equipment, automotive manufacturing); startup experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with practical failure analysis tools (FMEA review, 8D participation) applied to fabrication and assembly issues.

  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 or smart manufacturing concepts.

  • Experience working with global suppliers or manufacturing partners across multiple time zones.

  • Strong execution‑focused communication skills, with the ability to align design, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to deliver on aggressive timelines.
