$20.60-$21.85

*This is an at-will position serving under the direction of and may be terminated by the Public Works Supervisor.

FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

This position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of Public Works functions:

Assists with the construction and repair of playground equipment, fences, flowerbeds, picnic tables, benches, signs, and other park amenities.

Safely uses power tools and equipment to repair turf, mow grass, cut weeds, maintain trails, and clear brush.

Plants seeds, bulbs, fertilizers, prunes and waters park and garden areas.

Performs trash and litter pickup and collection duties daily around the City.

Loads and unloads materials, equipment, and supplies.

Performs heavy manual work as assigned for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.

Operates large mower and other motorized equipment related to park maintenance.

Other duties as assigned by Public Works Supervisor

Successful applicants must pass a background and reference check.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Note: Any combination of education, training, and work experience will be considered.

Education and Certification

Must be at least 18 years old and have high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Must possess and maintain an Alaska Drivers License and clean driving record

Experience

One year experience with basic skills involving construction, general repair, building maintenance, grounds maintenance using hand and power tools preferred.

Knowledge

Some reading and writing, adding and subtracting whole numbers.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to think clearly and act quickly and calmly in stressful situations.
