JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE
Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant II has responsibility for minor repairs and regular building and grounds maintenance for the assigned complex. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, to work independently, and to lead teams on maintenance and repair tasks requiring multiple staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains the interior and exterior of assigned buildings, parking lots and grounds in good condition
Performs minor building repairs: carpentry, plumbing, painting, refurbishing and cleaning
Assists in major repairs as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or Lead Maintenance Tech
Proactively inspects building to prevent maintenance issues, address small problems before they grow
Follows daily maintenance checklist provided by supervisor; Assures tools and supplies are stocked and appropriately secured in maintenance store rooms; maintains cleanliness and order of store rooms
Checks buildings for any safety concerns; understands and carries out VOALA, federal and other governmental regulations
Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Services for this position must be provided on-site. As a result, the position requires incumbents to report to work on-site each day of active employment.
Maintains the interior and exterior of assigned buildings, parking lots and grounds in good condition
Performs minor repairs as assigned; may be called to lead a team on assigned repairs/maintenance
Assists in major repair projects as assigned
Keeps tools and stock in good order
Conducts regular inspections of assigned buildings and grounds
Drives company vehicle as required for pick up and delivery of supplies
Other duties as required and may be subject to change
MANDATED REPORTER
As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness, mental-illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration and other challenges.
EDUCATION:
- Current California driver's license and clean driving record
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance or construction
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Some training in a Construction Trade specialty (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, etc.)
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
