Minimum Requirements:
Current GTA Member
Prior experience directing musical theater
Desired Qualifications:
Prior experience directing musical theater, preferably in a middle/high school or community theater setting.
A strong understanding of the developmental needs of student performers and a commitment to theater as an educational tool.
Familiarity with the technical requirements of a musical (lighting, sound, set design) to better collaborate with the tech team.
Exceptional time-management and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate feedback from various stakeholders (parents, staff, and administration) professionally.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Odyssey Academy is seeking a visionary and dedicated director to lead our 2026-2027 musical production. The Musical Director is responsible for the overall artistic vision of the show, working closely with student performers, technical crews, and parent volunteers to create a high-quality educational theater experience. We are looking for a leader who can balance artistic excellence with a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages student growth and creativity.
Must be available beginning in December 2026 for auditions, as well as for after-school, evening, and weekend rehearsals.
Must be available for tech week beginning in early February 2027, and performances the weekend of February 1921, 2027
Direct all aspects of the production, including blocking, character development, and overall staging.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive rehearsal schedule; lead efficient rehearsals that respect students' time and academic commitments.
Work closely with assistant directors, the choreographer, the technical director, and parent volunteers to ensure a cohesive production.
Foster a positive, safe, and professional environment for a diverse group of student performers.
Oversee the "big picture" of the production, including coordination with set, costume, and lighting designers to ensure the vision is executed within budget.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students and parents regarding artistic expectations and scheduling.
Complete necessary GCSD production approval forms and facilities forms.
