Akima Junior Linux System Administrator (Active Top Secret Clearance) in North Charleston, South Carolina

AMO, an Akima company, is looking to add a Junior Linux System Administrator with a Top Secret clearance to the team in Summerville, SC. This full-time position will support the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) network as a Junior Linux System Administrator providing on-site Linux operational support to US Navy IPT programmatic and technical leadership.

This role supports legacy and cloud-based Linux systems, assists with automation initiatives, and contributes to system performance monitoring and cybersecurity compliance activities within secure DoD laboratory environments.

The position is designed for a developing Linux professional looking to expand scripting, automation, and security implementation experience in a mission-driven RDT&E environment.

Responsibilities

Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the planning, design, installation, and implementation of the network infrastructure. Performs maintenance of file servers and network devices including the restoration of hardware and software. Anticipates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure the security of the system. Works with end users and vendors to resolve network hardware and software issues. May develop and administer end-user training to achieve efficient utilization of LAN/WAN.

Linux Systems Support

  • Serve as on-site Linux support for US Navy IPT programmatic and technical leads.

  • Communicate time-sensitive system performance issues, risks, and mitigation plans to technical leadership.

  • Monitor system performance across legacy Linux servers and cloud-hosted environments.

  • Assist with troubleshooting operating system and application-level issues.

Automation & Scripting Development

  • Learn to develop and maintain custom start scripts for various applications.

  • Enhance programming and scripting skills to support automation initiatives.

  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new tools and technologies to improve system reliability and efficiency.

  • Support configuration management and baseline maintenance efforts.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Support implementation and maintenance of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) for approved operating systems (desired).

  • Assist with vulnerability remediation activities as directed.

  • Maintain all qualification(s) required by the Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) for PAA.

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor's level degree in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Mathematics with field of concentration in computer science.

  • 3 years of professional experience in computer design, software development or computer networks. Experience monitoring and troubleshooting Linux environments.

  • Basic scripting experience (Bash, Python, or similar).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical leadership.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desired Certifications / Training

  • Red Hat Certified Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).

  • Ansible Automation certifications.

  • ACAS Operator and Supervisor Course (cyber.mil). Note: Required per DoD standards to serve as an ACAS User or Administrator
