Akima Automation Engineer (Active Top Secret Clearance) in North Charleston, South Carolina
AMO, an Akima company, is looking add for a Automation Engineer (with a TS clearance) to the team in Summerville, SC. This full-time position will support the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) network by designing and implementing advanced automation, security orchestration, and system integration solutions across classified and unclassified environments.
The Automation Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for automating cybersecurity compliance, enterprise monitoring, virtualization management, and infrastructure operations. This role focuses heavily on scripting, API integration, STIG automation, and enterprise observability in complex DoD environments.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support. Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations. Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately. Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
Automation & Scripting
Develop advanced scripts using PowerShell and/or Python to integrate enterprise systems, collect operational data, and increase visibility into issues and errors.
Send structured data to enterprise logging platforms (e.g., Splunk, Syslog).
Use PowerShell, Python, Chef InSpec, and Ansible to automate security, auditing, health checks, reporting, and system compliance functions.
Demonstrate expert-level scripting capabilities to automate operational and cybersecurity deliverables.
Security Automation & STIG Compliance
Use PowerShell, Python, Chef InSpec, and Ansible to audit and remediate STIG findings.
Create answer files to automate responses to “Manual” STIG checks and populate STIG Viewer checklists.
Use Evaluate-STIG with answer files to automate auditing and checklist generation for Windows and Linux hosts.
Maintain all qualifications required under the Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) framework for Privileged Access Administrator (PAA).
API Integration & Enterprise Tooling
Interface with APIs of enterprise systems such as:
ACAS / Tenable Security Center.
Splunk.
VMware NSX.
Develop integrations using REST APIs, JSON, XML, YAML, and related markup languages.
Utilize regular expressions to parse, manipulate, and transform data across Splunk, Python, and PowerShell environments.
Leverage XPath and JSONPath to query structured data sources.
Virtualization & Platform Automation
Use VMware PowerCLI to query, troubleshoot, and automate VMware infrastructure tasks.
Use Ansible to automate Linux administrative tasks.
Use PowerShell to automate Windows administrative tasks.
Demonstrate working knowledge of containers and container platforms (e.g., Docker).
Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Knowledge
Demonstrate understanding of:
SSL/TLS certificates
Mutual authentication
Public/private key architecture
PKI concepts
Apply object-oriented programming principles in PowerShell and Python-based automation.
Support continuous monitoring and enterprise visibility through custom Splunk dashboards and query development.
Qualifications
Active Top Secret Clearance.
Master's level degree in an Engineering discipline.
10+ years of professional experience in systems engineering, automation, or cybersecurity engineering.
Expert-level experience with PowerShell and/or Python scripting.
Experience automating STIG auditing and remediation.
Experience integrating enterprise APIs and security platforms.
Experience supporting Windows and Linux environments in a DoD setting.
Maintain all qualifications required under CSWF PAA standards.
Desired Certification
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
