Job Title: Laboratory TechnologistJob Description
The Laboratory Technologist performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established policies and procedures. The primary responsibility is to perform specimen preparation and clinical test analyses to acceptable levels of analytic performance under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager in a CLIA certified laboratory.
Responsibilities
Accession clinical/commercial samples, barcode, and enter essential data onto a cloud-based HIPAA-compliant patient management platform.
Process clinical samples from a variety of sources including human tissues, blood, and urine, as part of a highly cooperative team.
Enter necessary data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure precise sample tracking and full inventory control of reagents.
Participate in monthly Quality Management Systems (QMS) meetings and present activities and metric outcomes.
Develop and implement remedial activity plans and suggest quality improvements.
Maintain proficiency in the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical testing and understand quality control parameters.
Provide hands-on back-up support to other laboratory personnel in operational clinical tests.
Maintain laboratory records, including records for proficiency testing samples.
Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Understand and comply with all laboratory policies and procedures.
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.
2-3 years of experience in a clinical/commercial laboratory environment preferred.
Experience in molecular biology methodologies, particularly RT-PCR.
ASCP certification preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Clear understanding of patient confidentiality, as outlined in HIPAA.
Familiarity with RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based methodologies.
Proficiency in basic laboratory skills (solution preparation, pipetting with single and multichannel pipettes, and robotic liquid handlers).
Familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, and Laboratory Inventory Management Systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively, exercise good judgment, and maintain clear records.
Work Environment
The work is performed onsite in a laboratory environment with some shift work required. The role involves medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The schedule may be either Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday, with flexibility for weekends preferred.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
