Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters IS Network Engineer Lead in Norfolk, Virginia
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general direction of an IS manager, the Lead Network Engineer provides 24x7 support to ensure that a consistent, stable and secure network infrastructure is in place to service designated locations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: planning, designing, developing, and implementing Local and Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs) as well as Network Management systems such as Active Directory and SCEM/SCCM. This position is also responsible for IP address management, hardware and software testing, and network upgrades.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support of computer systems by maintaining and enhancing CHS systems to meet the needs of the departments and IS personnel.
Participates in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.
Serves as a resource to staff regarding specific skill demonstration, promotion of knowledge and communication.
Promotes and adheres to departmental and organizational information systems security policies, standards and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
None required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility (including theories, principles, and concepts) normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Networking, Computer Science, MIS or closely related discipline
2-3 years of experience required. A Cisco Certification or advanced knowledge of Microsoft SCCM/MECM with at least 4 years of experience in either of these technologies can be substituted for the degree.
Advanced infrastructure design and support skills including, but not limited to: routing and switching, VPN, security, WiFi, UC (Unified Communications), and Data Center.
Demonstrates in-depth LAN/WAN support and engineering experience.
Knowledge of Cisco routing/switching hardware, software protocols, etc.
Experience with Cisco security appliances, and other security technologies, to include Firewalls, IDS and IPS.
Linux experience a plus.
Experience with configuring, troubleshooting, and network monitoring.
Excellent written and oral communication, and analytical skills necessary to resolve problems.
Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.
Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like with the exception of visits to the computer room.
