BAE Systems Fabrication Project Manager in Norfolk, Virginia

Job Description

BAE Systems is hiring a Project Manager to support our Maritime Solutions business. This role will lead a fabrication team to coordinate and direct the work of trades to perform work for the entire fabrication project.

The Fabrication Project Manager has responsibility to efficiently meet project safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals. Performance for this position will be evaluated based on the success of the overall fabrication projects and against predetermined safety, quality, schedule, and cost standards.

As a Project Manager, you will:

  • Work with multiple departments and processes to support production efforts across entire fabrication team to support work execution, problem solving, planning, and process improvement.

  • Lead and facilitate teams through issues proactively across multiple departments.

  • Provide training support across team/peers and interact with internal/external customers across the enterprise.

  • Be directly responsible for the efficient execution of work items and the conditions of the areas in which they are assigned.

  • Report directly to the Director of Programs.

  • Work directly with production, and all other support trades to eliminate obstacles in the way of project success.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the entire team for their assigned projects.

  • Serve as a direct point of contact for all activity on the project(s) and have responsibility to direct production labor and support resources in order to successfully navigate the entire fabrication project.

  • Utilize fabrication knowledge, team-first mentality, and positive attitude to drive success.

  • Lead teams and have links to production leadership to provide direction around adherence to safety, quality, cost and schedule.

  • Oversee and manage technical marine fabrication projects from RFQ through award stage.

  • Serve as a liaison between customer, project management, planning, project team, and line management after award.

  • Prepare project execution plan and identifies technical and business resources needed.

  • Review status of projects and budgets, manage schedules and prepare status reports.

  • Assess issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

  • Provide technical and analytical guidance to project team.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years fabrication work experience in a shipyard or marine fabrication environment or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams to deliver commitments

  • Strong planning and project management skills, with thorough knowledge of ship repair processes and sequences, and the ability to organize and prioritize work schedule on short-term or long-term basis both for self and others

  • Ability to understand problems and to collaborate to explore identification of solutions

  • Ability to develop concepts, plans, and work schedules and communicate them to others

  • Ability to communicate well and compose materials such as detailed reports and work related documents and make effective presentations

  • Skilled at reading specifications, project drawings and understanding shop capabilities, and ability to identify additional equipment that may be required to better service our customers

  • Ability to read and understand RFQs, technical drawings, contracts, welding specifications, and quality requirements

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred with 10 years experience in a shipyard fabrication environment

  • PMP Certification or previous people management preferred

  • Team-oriented approach to problem solving

  • Experience with steel fabrication, welding procedures, press break and plate roller applications, and other ironworking equipment#LI-Onsite #LI-JR1

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $107359 - $182510

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
