The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic team in Norfolk Va.. The successful candidate will administer, maintain, and optimize up to 15 relational databases within a multi-platform environment, including Linux, Windows, and VMWare. This role operates within a SAFe Agile framework and requires familiarity with NTCSS (RSupply), server administration, database migration, and cloud technologies (AWS/Azure). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration, understanding of LOG IT system architecture, and experience in DoD and Navy network environments.
Key Responsibilities
Database & System Administration:
Perform daily administration, maintenance, performance tuning, and monitoring of relational databases (Sybase experience preferred)
Administer servers across multiple operating systems, including Linux and Windows Server
Plan, execute, and verify database migrations ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime
Install, configure, and upgrade database software following detailed procedures
Develop and maintain scripts (Bash, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks
Agile Framework Participation:
Employ SAFe Agile principles to align team activities with strategic goals
Participate in backlog refinement and iteration planning, providing technical insights
Review user stories for clarity, feasibility, and strategic alignment
Monitor impact of unplanned work on sprints and stakeholder expectations
Technical Support & Documentation:
Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database and system issues
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for procedures, configurations, and test cases
Build and manage environments within AWS or Azure cloud platforms
Collaboration & Communication:
Facilitate understanding of technical topics and recommendations to stakeholders
Collaborate with developers and architects to support application development and deployment knowledge
System Architecture
Understanding of LOG IT system architecture and functionality
SAFe Agile Principles - Knowledge to align work with strategic agile objectives
Operating Systems - Proficiency in Linux, Windows, Windows Server, and VMWare
Relational Databases & SQL - Strong SQL knowledge; Sybase experience highly preferred
System Networking
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols; Navy network familiarity advantageous
Qualifications
Required:
Adaptability and risk management in dynamic IT environments
Active Secret security clearance
Bachelor's degree in electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems
DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+, CASP, CISSP) or ability to obtain within 6 months
Industry certifications such as CompTIA Cloud Essentials, Security+, EMCDSA, CCDH, HCAHD, CISSP, or Microsoft (MCPD/MCSD/MCSE)
Experience with DoD Business IT supply, logistics, maintenance, and/or personnel administration systems
SAFe Agile framework experience including backlog refinement and iteration planning
Proficiency with Linux and Windows server administration
Database migration experience ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime
Cloud administration with AWS or Azure
Technical documentation development
Script development (bash, PowerShell) for automation
Database installation following technical instructions
Effective oral and written communication of complex concepts
Problem-solving and sound judgment in generating solutions
Desired:
Sybase database administration experience
Navy network environment familiarity (NMCI, ONE-Net)
Master's degree in quantitative field: (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems)
Agile Developer or Certified Scrum Developer certification

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
$75,200-$158,100
