GENERAL SUMMARY
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Quality and Staff Development Supervisor is responsible for developing and overseeing laboratory quality programs, regulatory requirements, and staff development training. Evaluates programs’ outcomes and works collaboratively with leadership for improvement of safe quality programs and services. Collaborates with leadership to establish and implement processes to support ongoing compliance and survey readiness. Reports to the designated director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, directs, and coordinates designated programs/services to meet regulatory standards in areas of safety, quality, staff training and development.
Supervises and provides for the orientation, mentoring and training of personnel in the utilization of the laboratory information systems, regulatory, safety and quality programs.
Researches and obtains interpretation of standard compliance requirements.
Assists with the development of processes to support ongoing survey readiness and keeps leadership informed on progress.
Communicates and collaborates with senior management, medical staff, managers, supervisors and laboratory staff to meet accreditation and compliance goals and objectives.
Audits and closely monitors all incident reports and quality control reports.
Assesses reports to identify areas for improvement and implements improvement processes utilizing team work process improvement activities.
Establishes, edits, reviews and maintains policies and procedures related to education, quality, safety and information systems.
Ensures the laboratory is compliant with all accreditation/regulatory requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Certification as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Scientist in all areas of the laboratory by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of chemistry, biology, mathematics, hematology, microbiology, serology, transfusion medicine, medical laboratory principles, standards, applications tests, safety, equipment and regulations at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, which includes successful completion of a supervised clinical internship.
Master’s degree preferred.
Approximately two years of laboratory experience is required in order to gain knowledge and proficiency in performing procedures.
Expert knowledge of general laboratory procedures and techniques for obtaining specimens, testing, equipment utilization, laboratory regulations, problem solving and computer systems.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians while reporting and explaining test results, gathering and analyzing information.
Analytical skills necessary in order to interpret and analyze routine test results, and determine appropriate course of action for abnormal or atypical results as it relates to normal health states and to the presence of disease or other conditions which may alter test results.
Ability to travel as required by job role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous materials, radiation, radio nucleotides, medicinalpreparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
