Nome Eskimo Community IRA Family Preservation Case Manager in Nome, Alaska
Purpose of Position:
The Family Preservation Case Manager provides case management and program support to advance the goals of the Family Services Department under the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), the Tribal-State Compact Agreement, and the Title IV-E Prevention Services Program. The Case Manager ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, upholds the organizations mission and values, and delivers culturally competent services to NEC tribal families.
Essential Functions:
Case Management:
- Provide case management services to NEC tribal families in accordance with Title IV-E Prevention Program and Tribal-State Compact Agreement.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Tribal In-Home Safety Plans.
- Maintain confidential client records and ensure compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Assist tribal members in accessing supportive services to meet case plan or safety plan requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Support ICWA Specialists in case-related activities and program objectives.
- Participate in Initial Assessment investigations with OCS investigators as assigned.
- Coordinate and conduct family contact visits, including transportation and supervised visitation summaries.
- Provide coverage for case meetings, reviews, and court hearings as needed.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain statistical information for program reporting requirements.
- Perform routine administrative support functions for the office.
- Record and upload relevant documentation into the State database system.
Program Development and Community Engagement:
- Conduct safety assessments of unlicensed relative homes.
- Coordinate and participate in recruitment efforts for ICWA-compliant foster homes.
- Assist potential foster parents with the State licensure process.
- Provide support for teleconferences, in-person meetings, and special projects.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Family Services Director.
Required Knowledge Skills:
1)
Experience with ICWA court proceedings.
2)
Experience working in cross-cultural and rural settings.
3)
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
4)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Windows, Internet).
5)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
6)
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of Alaskan Native traditions and needs.
7)
Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate degree in applicable field preferred.
Progressively responsible professional work experience in a related field may be substituted on a year for year basis for degree requirements.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in child protective services, comparable work experience or demonstrated proficiency at NEC is required.
Valid Alaska Drivers License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is conducted in a standard office environment.
Occasionally required to lift at least 20 pounds.
May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule occasionally.
Occasional travel is required.
