Engelbert Farms Organic Fencing/Maintenance Laborer in Nichols, New York

1 full time, seasonal H-2A jobs available 03/15/2026 - 12/15/2026.

At Engelbert Farms Organic, LLC, pasture maintenance is a cornerstone of our organic livestock system. We employ a variety of regenerative and sustainable techniques to maintain healthy pastures and ensure optimal animal nutrition. These include rotational grazing, where livestock are moved between paddocks to allow forage regrowth and prevent overgrazing. We monitor soil health and forage density regularly to determine grazing intervals and rest periods. Our team uses portable fencing and mobile water systems to facilitate efficient livestock movement and minimize pasture damage. We also implement frost seeding and cover cropping to improve pasture biodiversity and soil fertility. These practices not only support animal health but also enhance carbon sequestration and long-term land productivity.

Work hours will be 5am-9am and 6pm-9pm/7 hours per day.

The Fencing/Maintenance Laborer is responsible for the following duties during the spring, summer, and fall months:

Monitoring pasture health, soil moisture, and forage growth to ensure sustainable livestock nutrition during our growing season. Implementing rotational grazing systems to optimize forage use and soil regeneration. Maintaining fencing, water systems, and facilitating livestock movement across multiple paddocks during our growing season. Collaborating with farm owners to maintain animal health and welfare standards. Keeping detailed records of grazing schedules, pasture conditions, and livestock performance during our growing season. Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Herd livestock to pastures for grazing. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as the rate of weight gain.

The Fencing/Maintenance Laborer position is required on a seasonal basis from late March through early December. During these months, livestock are actively managed on pasture, requiring daily oversight of grazing systems, forage availability, and animal movement. This period aligns with the growing season in upstate New York, when pastures are productive and rotational grazing is essential to animal health and soil sustainability. Since our farm is certified organic, our livestock must be on pasture during the spring through fall months.

Requirements: * Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs * Random drug tests post-hire * Field temperatures range from 10 to 100 degrees (F)with possible wet morning conditions.
