Meet with a Representative in person at the City of Niagara Falls Job Fair! April 9th 10AM - 1PM LaSalle Branch Library Auditorium, 2nd Floor
Days/Hours: Shifts will vary between the days of Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM throughout the summer. Lifeguards may float between the 3 City pools. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled work involving life guarding and lifesaving responsibilities in either indoor or outdoor public or school district pools. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safety of adults and/or children in the pool or pool area. Employees may be hired to work in the summer months when the City pools are open. The work will be on a part time basis. The work is performed under the general supervision of an assigned superior. The Lifeguard performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: * Keeps watch or patrols swimming pool and pool area; * Provides aid or assistance when the need arises; * Applies resuscitation techniques and otherwise renders first aid; * Maintains order in the pool area; * Enforces compliance with pool regulations; * Keeps pool free of debris.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: * Good knowledge of first aid, lifesaving, and rescue techniques; * Ability to swim well; ability to deal with the public; * Good observation skills, mental alertness, sound judgement, ability to follow oral instructions; * Ability to maintain records and make reports; * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, pupils and staff; * physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
