Job Description
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the SPY-6 Family of Radars by integrating, testing, and troubleshooting complex radar software in a dynamic shipyard environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver robust, high-performance radar software solutions, ensuring optimal system performance across a range of operating conditions. The position is based in Newport News, Virginia, and involves hands-on work with radar software and hardware during integration, testing, and field activities.
Responsibilities
Assist in software integration and testing activities under the guidance of Sr. engineers to support the SPY-6 Family of Radars.
Conduct software integration, system testing, and debugging in a shipyard environment, ensuring that radar software operates reliably on target platforms.
Execute test plans, procedures, and scripts to validate radar software functionality, performance, and interoperability with hardware components.
Analyze and resolve software and hardware interface issues that arise during integration and test events.
Document integration processes, test results, and troubleshooting steps to maintain clear knowledge transfer and traceability of system changes.
Support field installations and trials as needed to ensure successful deployment and operation of radar systems.
Work independently on daily tasks with minimal remote support, while recognizing when complex issues require subject matter expert intervention.
Support the team in accomplishing test criteria and ensuring safe execution during integration and test events.
Provide hands-on support to both the team and hardware during capability development and testing activities.
Collaborate effectively within a small, high-performing waterfront team and contribute positively in a high-stress, dynamic environment.
Adapt to changing schedules and priorities driven by ship construction timelines and test schedules.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in software integration, software development, or software testing, preferably in radar systems or embedded systems.
Experience with at least one high-level programming language (for example, C, C++, or a similar language).
Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash.
Proficiency with Linux and the command line interface for development, testing, and troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience with software debugging and troubleshooting tools such as GDB and Wireshark or similar tools.
Experience with version control and issue tracking systems such as Git, Jira, or Rational ClearCase.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while effectively communicating with a distributed team.
Active and transferable U.S. government–issued security clearance prior to start date.
U.S. citizenship, as required for holding a security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with radar systems, signal processing, or real-time systems.
Experience working with embedded or sensor-based systems in an integration and test context.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies, including participation in iterative planning and review cycles.
Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
Knowledge of hardware and software integration processes, particularly involving radar or other complex sensor systems.
Experience using MATLAB or other data analysis tools for test data review and performance assessment.
Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Strong documentation skills and attention to detail for recording test procedures, results, and issue resolutions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $60.00/hr.
