Position Description
Primary Purpose
Direct and supervise marine workforce personnel, facilities, and equipment to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of materials between vessels and dock at a marine terminal. Oversee rail activities, including the loading and unloading of railcars and vehicles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor departmental production and maintenance activities
Assign crew members to daily duties and operational tasks
Clearly and effectively communicate progress toward objectives to terminal management and develop strategies for necessary adjustments
Train, coach, and lead direct reports in the safe use and operation of all machinery and equipment on KM property
Troubleshoot and resolve a variety of mechanical and electrical issues within Pier IX/X
Maintain knowledge of KM procedures related to near misses, incidents, and accidents
Perform daily administrative tasks, including daily reports, incident reporting, and SQE documentation
Ensure departmental production objectives are achieved while remaining compliant with EHS requirements, customer expectations, and quality standards
Develop, instruct, motivate, and discipline the workforce in compliance with KM policies and standards
Identify and promote ideas that improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulatory agencies, Kinder Morgan staff, and others as required
Perform other duties as assigned and trained
Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience / Specific Knowledge
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful supervisory leadership experience within the marine terminal industry
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance provider
Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC security clearance
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse workforce
Ability to accept direction and work effectively and cooperatively with others
Physical Demands
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, heights greater than five (5) feet, moving mechanical parts, rail equipment, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, uneven terrain, and high noise levels
Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work on feet for extended periods
Communicate with supervisors and coworkers via radio and hand signals
Must wear flame-resistant (FRC) clothing when required
While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Frequently required to talk and hear
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Working Conditions
Required to work in all types of weather conditions
Work performed around heavy machinery and onboard marine vessels
Availability and periodic response to emergency situations on a 24/7 basis
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage and oversee daily activities of marine department personnel to include reporting
