Schedule: 1st shift; Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: Onsite in Newington, CT
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for machine setups, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of all production equipment, as well as provide continuous improvement to the preventive maintenance process. Mechanic will have primary home department (Bindery or Insert).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain safe work environment and follow all company safety protocols.
Perform all machine setups in a timely manner.
Bindery: Spedo and H&H lines. All Mechanic I setups plus; Gatefold, Gatefold slit/nest, self-mailers, snap-pack, Ehret cutter and ancillary Ehret equipment. Additional setups for Tri-stack, card affix print (R/W), plow fold.
Inserting: WD and Epic lines. All Mechanic I setups plus; 9x12, Match work (print, R/W, R/R), non-standard work, non-spec forms, difficult material, create template/modes.
Read job recaps thoroughly and check jobs as to accuracy, reporting any error or discrepancy to the supervisor immediately
Clean machines prior to setups and inspect the machines as a preventive maintenance measure.
Maintain production standards. Report any production, quality or safety problems to the supervisor immediately.
Perform daily/weekly/monthly preventive maintenance on machines as necessary. Contribute to PM planning.
Perform minor electrical testing, such as, change fuses and fix broken wires.
Perform advanced parts replacement as needed:
Bindery: Mechanic I repairs and all straight shooter repairs and Ehret pin fees, blankets and knife adjustment.
Inserting: Mechanic I repairs and feeders, insert section, transport rollers repairs.
Respond to machine problems throughout the shift. Diagnose problems and perform minor repairs and adjustments as quickly as possible to avoid production delays.
Fully utilize MicroMain system for all repairs/parts – enter work orders digitally. Follow all crib procedures, find parts (look up in system and locate), complete all paperwork etc. to ensure accurate parts inventory.
Move to other areas or perform other duties as directed by supervision.
Comply with company rules and regulations.
Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve operating efficiency of the department.
Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will affect the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Trade school plus 2-3 years’ experience in machine repair or equivalent.
COMPETENCIES
Ability to use basic hand and power tools, such as:
Standard and metric wrenches and sockets
Screwdrivers
Electric meters and testers
Saws
Drills
Electric sander/grinder
Machine shop tools
Experienced with standard and advanced tools
Computer literacy
Ability to comprehend parts/operator manuals.
Good Communication skills, verbal and written
Required technical expertise to effectively read, follow and comprehend technical manuals to run and adjust machines
