Beth Israel Lahey Health Pharmacy Technician - Per Diem in Newburyport, Massachusetts

Under the direction of a pharmacist, the technician is responsible for the accurate preparation of a variety of

sterile products including, but not limited to: IV solutions, epidurals, chemotherapy, TPN, and unit dose

products. Other duties include ordering and restocking medications and supplies as well as restocking

automated dispensing device, reviewing related reports, identifying and bringing issues to the attention of the

pharmacist in charge.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepares a variety of sterile products in accordance with current USP 797 guidelines.

  • Repackages bulk medications into unit-dose packaging including appropriate labeling and bar-code.

  • Demonstrates good working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems (Meditech).

  • Demonstrates good working knowledge of automated dispensing device (Omnicell).

  • Orders and restocks medications and supplies from a variety of sources, paying close attention to price and

  • quantity.

  • Performs monthly evaluations of all nursing and ancillary units where medications are stocked for proper

  • storage and removal of expired or soon to expire medications.

  • Maintains proper records of the evaluations and discusses with the pharmacist-in-charge.

  • Performs other general functions necessary as determined by the Pharmacy Director or Pharmacist in charge.

  • Accurately rebuilds and reconciles anesthesia kits daily. All discrepancies are promptly reported to the

  • Director or Pharmacist in charge.

  • Accurately enters patient medication charges into Meditech

  • Maintains Massachusetts Pharmacy technician registration

  • Assists in training and instruction of new technicians

Minimum Education

High School diploma required

Minimum Work Experience

2 years hospital related experience preferred

Required Licenses

[Massachusetts, United States] Pharmacy Technician

Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician license required

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing and/or

walking for more than 4 hours per day.

Work Environment

Secure area. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals, including oncology agents and anesthetics

Pay Range:

$24.50 - $34.62

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
