Chemours is seeking a Laboratory Automation Engineer to join our growing Chemours Newark Area Technology Team! This position will report directly to the Newark Area Technology Director at our Newark, DE , location.

The Chemours Newark Area Technology team is seeking to engage a Lab Automation Engineer to support collaborative research projects and business-critical product/process investigations at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, DE. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a variety of scientific efforts on behalf of multiple business units. There will be an expectation to have – or enthusiastically and rapidly develop – expertise in data acquisition, lab process control technologies, custom programming, LabView, Linux, lab networking, lab file sharing, and data management. These skills will need to be safely executed in a variety of laboratory settings as well as pilot operations areas. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop quickly into a technical resource in their areas of expertise and make strong and increasing technical contributions to the corporation.

Chemours operates three Newark Area sites that will be supported by this Lab Automation Engineer. The Chemours Discovery Hub is located on the University of Delaware STAR Campus in Newark, DE. This state-of-the-art facility was completed in 2019 and fully opened for science in 2020. The 350 scientists, engineers, and technicians at the site work in 130 laboratories that provide 320,000 square feet of space for research and development, technical service, and manufacturing support of Chemours businesses. Our Experimental Station Laboratories in Wilmington, DE, are pilot operations for the Thermal and Specialized Solutions and Advanced Performance Materials business units. Lastly, the Tenzing pilot operation is located in Elkton, MD, and supports the Advanced Performance Materials business. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Drive creative and integrated laboratory automation solutions for colleagues

  • Develop custom applications in LabView and variants of C/C++ and Python

  • Design and deploy bespoke solutions for data management and data transfer

  • Manage remote connectivity for analytical instruments and data stations

  • Provide in-house support for Linux computing platforms

  • Independently adapt new methodologies to current projects

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with varying degrees of priority

  • Safely operate and maintain laboratory automation equipment

  • Effectively communicate results and progress to the Chemours R&D community

  • Work independently and with cross-functional teams

  • Independently formulate work plans and manage/prioritize daily workflow

  • Document contributions and designs for knowledge retention purposes

The following are required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in Laboratory Automation or close related field.

  • Custom application development in object-oriented programming environments.

  • Proficiency with both current and legacy computing hardware.

  • Familiarity with multiple data transfer protocols.

  • Experience configuring, updating, and modifying operating systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks independently with minimal guidance/supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet challenging deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Commitment to always maintaining safe operations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with and support a diverse scientific community.

The following are preferred for this role:

  • Experience developing in LabVIEW.

  • Experience with Linux configuration and troubleshooting.

  • PLC configuration and programming experience.

  • Familiarity with USB, TCP, RS‑485, RS‑232, and/or Modbus communication protocols.

  • Experience working with SQL, Oracle, and/or Citadel.

  • Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

  • Experience with image analysis tools or methodologies.

Pay Range (in local currency):

$97,843.00 - $152,880.00

Annual Bonus Target:

8%
