Corporate Affairs is vital to the Girl Scout Movement’s success in delivering on its mission by stewarding brand reputation and relevancy, building engaging relationships and loyalty among internal and external audiences and amplifying the voice of today’s Girl Scouts through strategic storytelling. The department is responsible for delivering on these goals through external/internal communications, media relations, cultural assets, government affairs, public policy, and advocacy.
This is a hybrid role with 2 days in the New York City office.

You Will
The Senior Director, Internal and Stakeholder Communications is a senior enterprise communications leader responsible for driving clarity, alignment, and trust across GSUSA’s workforce and key internal stakeholders during a period of significant organizational transformation.
This role serves as the central communications integrator for high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that do not naturally sit within a single community or function—particularly those driven by the CEO, National Board, Executive Management Team, or enterprise strategy. The Senior Director applies a rigorous stakeholder lens, anticipates risk, and ensures that internal and Movement-facing communications are intentional, coordinated, and delivered at the right moment, in the right way.
Operating with high discretion and sound judgment, this leader is a trusted advisor to executive leadership and a connective force across Corporate Affairs, Strategy, Customer Experience, Talent & Culture, Legal, and the Board Office.
Essential Responsibilities
Communications Leadership for High-Impact, Cross-Functional Initiatives
Provide strategic communications leadership and project oversight for enterprise initiatives that are high-visibility, cross-functional in nature, and often driven by the CEO, National Board, Executive Management Team, or organizational strategy. Responsibilities include:
Leading stakeholder mapping and communications strategy from inception through execution
Ensuring the right leaders are engaged at the right moments for input and decision-making
Anticipating issues, scenario-planning, and elevating risks before they escalate
Coordinating communications timelines and outputs across teams
Elevating critical matters to EMT as appropriate
Acting as a central project manager for complex, sensitive communications
Internal Governance & Stakeholder Communications Strategy
Serve as a strategic partner on internal governance communications, including strategy communications alignment tied to Vision 2030 execution, communications to and from the National Board, GSUSA-only internal communications in partnership with various Community leads. Responsibilities include:
Ensuring GSUSA staff are informed early and clearly on major decisions
Strengthening internal cascades so staff are aligned with Council CEOs—not learning after the fact
Driving quarterly alignment and review of internal governance communications
Inbound Request Vetting & Strategic Prioritization
In collaboration with the Office of the CEO, design and oversee a consistent process for evaluating inbound requests such as thought leadership and conference opportunities, external partnership inquiries, and requests for CEO or Board commitments. Responsibilities include:
Developing evaluation rubrics and decision frameworks
Creating templates and repositories to streamline responses
Recommending clear next steps aligned with strategy and capacity
Corporate Affairs Team Alignment & Deployment
In close partnership with the Chief Communications & Corporate Affairs Officer, this role serves as a strategic partner for proactive planning and future-state mapping and a steward of team capacity. Responsibilities include:
Management of a comprehensive and cross-functional communications calendar that is widely understood and adopted, and that brings a stakeholder lens to our communications
Balancing long-term strategic initiatives with reactive demands
Tracking enterprise priorities and upcoming deliverables
Helping optimize how leadership time and communications resources are deployed across the Movement

Required Competencies
10+ years of progressive experience in internal, corporate, or stakeholder communications
Strong project management instincts paired with strategic communications expertise
Exceptional judgment, discretion, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to translate strategy into clear, human-centered communications
Comfort operating in ambiguity and building structure where none exists
Strategic thinker who sees the whole system and its interdependence

Required Technical Skills
Office 365 or similar suites
Competency in PowerPoint or similar presentation software
Competency in Microsoft Excel or similar software
You Need
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 10-12 years’ experience in corporate environment
10+ years of progressive experience in internal, corporate, or stakeholder communications
Demonstrated success leading communications for complex, matrixed organizations
Experience advising senior executives and boards on sensitive issues
SALARY RANGE: $109,000 - $180,000
This represents the present low and high end of the pay range for this position. This pay range is only applicable to NYC Metro-based employees, on a hybrid schedule. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
