This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

Position Objective:
The Senior Manager, Special Projects, will lead complex, unique initiatives within the Rolling Stock Division and provide executive support to the Chief of Rolling Stock. The incumbent in this role is expected to understand the macro picture of the MTA’s Rolling Stock business needs, ensuring alignment across MTA operating, legal, procurement, finance, data, and other departments in support of the Rolling Stock program’s mandate to achieve the best value for the MTA’s rolling stock acquisitions and ensure dedicated attention to the acquisition and lifetime costs of these strategic assets. Additionally, this incumbent will support the storytelling around the Rolling Stock business to internal and external audiences, from stakeholder and board briefings to external presentations.
Responsibilities:
Oversee “Run-the-team” business operations.
Set the agenda for and lead recurring leadership meetings
Lead high-stakes communications and reporting, including drafting executive and board-level communications that clearly articulate progress, outcomes, and key decision points.
Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of recurring reports
Provide project leadership by managing complex, non-routine projects from initiation to completion.
Lead Planning & Strategy efforts, including the Development of detailed project plans, goals, timelines, and resource allocation strategies.
Manage stakeholders by serving as a primary liaison, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to ensure project execution and success.
Serve as a strategic problem-solving partner to the Chief and Rolling Stock team members by proactively identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
Provide executive support to the Chief of Rolling Stock, including support for key initiatives, preparation of materials, and ad-hoc requests.
Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review the performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
Is held accountable for overseeing and evaluating contractor/consultant/vendor performance, where applicable:
Observing the work performed by the contractor/consultant/ vendor;
Reviewing invoices and approving them if the work meets contractual standards;
Addressing performance issues with the contractor/consultant/vendor when possible; and
Escalating issues to other parties as needed.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered in lieu of a degree. A related Master’s degree could be used as a substitute for up to 2 years of related experience.
Minimum of seven (7) years of blended work experience in an analytical, strategy-oriented role, ideally within a top-tier management consulting firm, investment bank, or other high-performance environment, or a role involving close collaboration with executive-level stakeholders to drive organizational change and business impact.
Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.
The Following is/are preferred:
Corporate communications experience.
Rail, transportation, or manufacturing industry experience.
Exposure to complex commercial negotiations.
Experience with government procurement processes.
Other Information
May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)
Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
