The Enterprise Data Platforms (EDP) organization is part of the American Express Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions (EDDS) Group. EDP manages the Big Data Ecosystem which helps to centralize data across the company with built-in governance and democratization of access to a broad user community. The team is driving the future of our business by building products and platforms that deliver trusted and quality data for decision-making processes, big data applications and analytical users. We are looking for a Product Manager partners closely with technology, business, and governance stakeholders to execute the modernization of data platforms, enhance analytical capabilities, and optimize user experience. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong product leadership, technical fluency, and an enterprise mindset — enabling innovation, operational excellence, and measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for key digital and data initiatives within the EDMP portfolio, aligning with enterprise strategy and business priorities.

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, architecture, and business partners to deliver customer-centric, innovative solutions.

  • Design solutions for BI and analytical users that overcome on-prem challenges and streamline journeys within the public cloud.

  • Partner with Enterprise BI, Data Governance, and Platform teams to deliver seamless user experiences and consistent semantic layer frameworks for analytics and GenAI enablement.

  • Evaluate external BI tools and capabilities in data asset management and analytics to assess applicability to the Amex platform.

  • Understand the current on-prem big data platform landscape, architect the target-state architecture, and execute the modernization roadmap to public cloud infrastructure.

  • Oversee end-to-end product lifecycle management — from ideation and design through delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop KPIs and success metrics to track performance, value realization, and user adoption across product lines.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to product analysts and associates, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration.

  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Information Security teams to ensure products meet data governance, privacy, and control standards.

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships to identify needs, resolve challenges, and drive continuous improvement in product offerings.

  • Serve as a key liaison to leadership, preparing and delivering updates on roadmap progress, priorities, and risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field; Master’s preferred.

  • 5–8 years of experience in digital or data product management, preferably in large-scale enterprise or cloud environments.

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional teams and delivering complex technology or analytics products.

  • Strong understanding of data platforms, semantic layers, cloud technologies (Google Cloud Platform preferred), and BI tools (MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI, Looker).

  • Demonstrated expertise in Agile product management, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively across all levels and functions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data-driven insights into strategic business outcomes.

  • Deep understanding of big data platform architecture, data management, and emerging technologies.

  • Highly organized and customer-focused, with strong critical thinking and the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders.

  • Deep understanding of data governance, metadata management, and enterprise analytics modernization principles.

  • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution, driving measurable outcomes in fast-paced, evolving environments.
