Mount Sinai Health System Senior Associate Researcher - Hematology & Medical Oncology in New York, New York

Job Description

The Senior Associate Researcher will conduct research activities in collaboration with internal/external scientists/technicians and Post Docs to complete scientific-based project within the Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology. The laboratory focuses on stem cell biology of patients with myeloproliferative disorders.

The Senior Associate Researcher will independently conduct research experiments to support ongoing projects using advanced techniques, analyze and interpret highly complex results, and review and present data for publication and/or presentation. He/she will also assist postdoctoral fellows and students within the lab with their ongoing projects. The Senior Associate Researcher will report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in sciences or related field. Masters Degree in sciences or related field preferred.

  • 5 years in a research environment.

Preferred:

  • Science background

  • Experience in a research environment preferably with hematopoietic stem cells or primary human cell systems; extensive expertise in basic molecular and cellular biology methods including DNA and RNA isolation, siRNA methods, construct engineering, tissue culture and preparation and analysis of samples through flow cytometry platforms (including instrument setup, compensation design and analysis (e.g., using FlowJo, FCS Express, or similar software) of complex multicolor panels (≥8 colors).

  • Strong experience with biochemistry techniques including ELISA, Western blots and immuno-precipitations among others.

  • Previous experience in human hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell isolation, culture, and megakaryocyte-erythroid differentiation including immortalized cell lines.

  • Familiarity with cell signaling pathways, cytokine stimulation assays, and phospho-protein detection.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Effective teamwork as well as motivational supervision of others.

  • Reading and analytical skills; medical knowledge required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a variety of research experiments using advanced research techniques, performing basic molecular and cellular biology methods.

  • Perform isolation and culture of primary human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (CD34⁺) and other defined subsets from human mobilized peripheral blood or bone marrow.

  • Execute ex vivo differentiation assays for hematopoietic lineages, including morphological, molecular, and functional characterization.

  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate flow cytometer, including setup-optimize of multicolor panel design for complex immunophenotyping, cell sorting and quantification of hematopoietic subsets.

  • Perform methyl cellulose semisolid colony-forming assays and liquid culture systems for hematopoietic progenitors.

  • Perform protein-based assays, including protein extraction, Western blotting, ELISA, for pathway and signaling studies.

  • Conduct RNA and DNA extractions, RT-qPCR, and basic molecular biology techniques for gene expression and validation studies.Maintain accurate and organized experimental records, laboratory notebooks, and sample inventories.

  • Coordinates project activities to meet deadlines.

  • Collaborates with the Principal Investigator in the development of new experiments and research techniques. Incumbents are expected to stay apprised of the literature as well as practical skill sets relevant to the field.

  • Assists in the implementation of standardized protocols for experiments and training purposes; create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specific for each study.

  • Mentors and trains less experienced research staff and graduate students in research techniques and use of equipment.

  • Ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Performs other related duties.

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $61999 - $109583.67 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
