The City Solutions practice serves as a tenet of the Advisory & Planning arm within TYLin. The practice encompasses multi-modal transportation planning, environmental planning, traffic engineering, sustainability and resiliency management, and mobility innovation while integrating with project delivery sectors covering Transportation (including Surface Transportation and Bridges, Rail and Transit, and Aviation), Water, and Buildings.
The NY/NE Region spans from Pennsylvania to Maine along the eastern seaboard. The City Solutions practice in this geography is comprised of a team of roughly 80 professionals concentrated primarily in New York City, with several staff in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Key clients and projects are also concentrated in those geographies, with opportunities to grow and deepen relationships and projects throughout NY, NJ, Philadelphia, and beyond.
The City Solutions NY/NE Practice Manager role is responsible for expanding a sustainable practice of transportation and environmental planning and traffic engineering for public and private sector clients. This includes providing leadership, business development and strategic marketing, client relationship management, project delivery, and recruitment and retention of key staff. The successful candidate will be very familiar with the area markets, industry trends, and local clients; be self-motivated to secure and cultivate existing and new client contacts; and have demonstrated success in a relevant client development enterprise.
The City Solutions NY/NE Practice Manager role will directly contribute to developing and implementing the growth strategy for this geography. They will be responsible for directly engaging their downstream organization in the project pipeline population, the growth of the regional market share, the assurance of best practices, and the delivery of technical excellence. They will be visible in the market and demonstrate prominence through leadership roles in relevant industry organizations and through thought leadership.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development / Marketing
Maintain a pursuit pipeline above the annual sales goal; research and identify City Solutions market growth opportunities in the area
Develop, monitor, and update marketing/business development plans with short and long-range goals
Develop and implement solution-oriented sales approaches detailed to customer market and requirements
Work with the Practice Leader and Project Managers to develop strategies for cultivating prospects and obtaining work
Engage with Sector Leaders and Area Manager in making go/no-go decisions on project pursuits
Provide direction and oversight of team on proposal pricing strategies and pursuit strategies, based on competition, market demand and opportunities, and growth strategies
Manage pursuits including teaming, proposal writing and preparation of formal interview presentations
Lead marketing strategy planning meetings
Develop, manage, and maintain relationships with clients and prospects that result in new business opportunities
Champion and drive City Solutions business development efforts in the marketplace to achieve agreed upon annual growth goals and build brand presence within the market
Responsible for achieving agreed upon annual sales goals
Responsible for achieving new client targets included in annual sales plans
Project Delivery
Serve as Project Principal or Project Manager on select projects
Perform regular operational reviews of on-going projects
Prepare/approve Quality Assurance Plans for projects
Prepare staffing plans and workload projections
Assure quality work products are consistently delivered to all strategic clients
Operations
Maintain expense budget for the region, identifying and adhering to priorities in investments for conference and business development activities, staff morale, and other expenses
Support development and execution of an annual financial plan for the region
Manage the business to align with key metrics as outlined in the annual financial plan, including but not limited to revenue, cash collections, sales, team utilization, and project profitability
Report on regional performance on a monthly basis to Operations Manager and Practice Leader and to TYLin leadership on a bi-annual basis
Prepare quarterly forecasts of revenue, staff utilization, and sales
Recruiting / Retention
Identify staffing needs
Prepare position descriptions
Identify and recruit candidates
Review candidate resumes and perform interviews
Maintain staff morale
Perform annual performance reviews
Make salary and bonus recommendations
QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDING EDUCATION and/or JOB EXPERIENCE):
Requires Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning or related field (registration preferred but not required).
Must have strong Business Development/Marketing experience with a proven track record.
Must have strong operations and management experience.
The ideal candidate will have approximately 20 years of increasingly responsible experience for an A/E/C firm or in an agency, including experience in a leadership position.
Successful candidate will have a history of developing and maintaining effective business relationships with clients and peers.
Demonstrated success in growing a group, division or company desired.
Excellent verbal and written and presentation skills are required.

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $210,000- $270,000 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer. #LI-onsite
