OverviewThe General Utility Worker (GUW) LI-2 is an entry-level role within Construction Services Street & Gas Operations. This position involves hands-on field work with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork. The primary responsibility is to develop skills and qualify for advancement through our training programs in various disciplines.ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities * Assist with constructing, maintaining, and repairing equipment on electrical, steam, and gas systems. * Safely operate hand and power tools, along with equipment such as jackhammers, tampers, and digging machinery. * Learn to read blueprints and sketches. * Perform physical activities including excavating and climbing. * Follow all safety and environmental policies and procedures. * Obtain required certifications and licenses. * Provide excellent customer service and represent the company positively. * Work overtime, off-hours, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. * Incorporate Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools into daily work. * Support a culture of safety, diversity, operational excellence, cost management, and customer experience. * Report to an assigned operating region within Construction Services (Bronx/Westchester, Brooklyn/Queens, or Manhattan) based on operational needs. * Comply with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including passing a DOT physical exam, maintaining a valid medical examiners certificate, and participating in random drug testing (including marijuana) before and during employment. * Operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) weighing between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds as required.QualificationsRequired Education/Experience * High School Diploma/GEDRelevant Work Experience * Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude is preferred. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Previous construction experience is a plus.Licenses and Certifications * Driver's License RequiredPhysical Demands * Ability to respond to system emergencies * Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions * Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs * Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces) * Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems * Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations * Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday * Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT) * Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses * Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipmentAdditional Physical Demands * The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. * The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. * The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. * The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.Equal Opportunity Employer: Consolidated Ediso
