Insight Global Electrical Engineer – Power Transformers in New York, New York
Job Description
Insight Global is looking to hire an Electrical Engineer – Power Transformer Focus for one of their largest utility clients located in NY. This role supports the Large Power Transformer group and focuses on the engineering, evaluation, and lifecycle support of high-voltage transformer assets across the transmission system. The engineer will work closely with an internal Transformer Subject Matter Expert (SME) and regularly interface with transformer manufacturers to support new designs, equipment expansions, and system upgrades. The position balances involvement in major capital projects with hands-on ownership of smaller, high-volume reliability and asset management initiatives tied to aging equipment and accessories. While not a drafting or full-time commissioning role, the engineer will gain exposure to design reviews, field activities, and manufacturer coordination, making this a strong growth opportunity for someone looking to deepen their transformer expertise.
The engineer will support a large portfolio of transformer-related projects, including participation in design reviews for new and modified transformer types, coordination with manufacturers on equipment design and integration, and support for the purchase, expansion, and replacement of large power transformers. Responsibilities also include reliability and asset management work for aging equipment, such as transformer replacement planning, placement reports, and lifecycle assessments. The engineer will lead smaller but critical programs, including accessory replacement initiatives such as high-voltage bushing replacements and transformer oil monitoring systems that function as on-unit diagnostic laboratories. This work involves evaluating existing assets, supporting replacement strategies, and coordinating with internal teams and external vendors.
Additional responsibilities include contributing to equipment and purchase specifications, supporting updates to internal standards, and participating in field activities such as installation support, commissioning observation, and testing coordination. This is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days remote, with field days substituting as needed.
