Pay or shift range: $82,000 USD to $100,000 USD

Summary:

Safe Horizon’s Director Development - Strategic Partnerships is a high-level, cross-functional, external-facing role that contributes to raising significant private revenue and growing our organizational brand. The Director will be responsible for a strategic portfolio of leading companies and select nonprofit donors and prospects, working to: maximize and leverage philanthropic partnerships that drive private revenue and contribute to brand building and awareness; secure new and grow existing corporate grants and event sponsorships at the five- and six-figure levels; collaborate closely with the Communications team on strategic visibility opportunities; and support Safe Horizon’s efforts to build its reputation as a national thought leader on victim services and anti-violence in the U.S. This position is a part of the Development and Communications team and reports directly to the Vice President, Individual and Community Engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Development and Communications team leadership, lead a robust and sustainable fundraising and external relations plan to grow a portfolio of strategic partnerships with leading companies and influential nonprofits, with a focus on securing grants and sponsorships at the $25K+ level.

  • Serve as an external-facing ambassador in all donor relationships and as needed, support Executive leadership, including the Chief Executive Officer, in high-stakes interactions.

  • Have primary responsibility for the development and execution of donor proposals and reports within the portfolio, ensuring that donor business objectives are aligned with organizational mission and grant compliance is maintained.

  • Work closely with Individual Giving, Events, Foundations teams to integrate shared fundraising strategies for maximum organizational benefit.

  • In partnership with Director of Development Events, manage strategic employee engagement and pro-bono volunteer activities for high-level donors.

  • Conduct research and lead outreach efforts to expand the pool of corporate prospects—especially companies that are BIPOC, women-owned/led, and align with Safe Horizon values—for grant support and strategic partnership opportunities, including event sponsorship and cause marketing.

  • Strategize with the Communications team regularly to identify full range of opportunities with companies and influential groups, such as media visibility and co-branded partnerships.

  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work, partnerships, writing, and approach.

  • Take on special projects as requested, plus other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of corporate fundraising and portfolio management experience, including independently executing a sophisticated fundraising operation at a nonprofit. Major and principal gift fundraising is a plus.

  • Demonstrated history of successfully meeting fundraising goals and securing corporate and other high-profile gifts and grants at the $50K+ level.

  • Experience in nonprofit grants management, sponsorship, or cause marketing.

  • Top-notch presentation, public speaking, project management, and business and grant writing skills required.

  • Exceptional attention to detail while acutely aware of the "big picture" i.e. revenue strategy and financial goals.

  • Comfortable working with various constituencies and skilled in articulating the mission of Safe Horizon in a manner that generates supportive responses; history of success in securing and managing new relationships.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder, deadline driven environment and manage multiple demands.

  • Passion for Safe Horizon’s mission & values, grounded in anti-racist and survivor-centered analysis.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation and negotiation skills.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Ability to travel within New York City as needed.

This is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work remotely 3 days per week.
