Project Management

• Support the Strategic Management Initiative by managing all aspects of the development process:

• Package Feasibility.

• Packaging outline development.

• Component/ Package costing specifications and technical profiles.

• Supplier recommendation /selection.

• Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA - During Design Direction, Design Turnover and Post Business Award).

• Support Line Validation Trials

• Manage projects end-to-end to ensure design and construction meets all Estee Lauder engineering requirements.

• Develop and implement package test plans for all projects.

• Work with Cross Brand Packaging, Manufacturing, Quality and Material Science to define specifications, design criteria and defect ranges to ensure optimal process flow from manufacture of components through filling and assembly.

• Develop package specifications and validate that technical drawings clearly identify all aspects required to define the package.

• Ensure all projects are completed and meet the intended design, quality, cost, functionality, and manufacturability objectives.

• Ensure that packages/components meet the needs of the Brand, corporation, Regulatory and Environmental Legislation, and consumer safety.

• Keep informed through colleagues, vendors, journals, professional affiliations, and seminars of new materials, processes, and procedures.

• Develop detailed component timelines including all package development tasks and manage them.

Communication Proficiency

• Communicate package development schedules and proactively identify risks or mitigation strategies to ensure component availability requirements are met.

• Clearly identify and inform cross-functional partners of any risks or delays encountered during the development process.

• Establish and communicate workload priorities to ensure all projects are managed and delivered within expected due dates.

• Communicate and work closely with all development groups, including Marketing, Product Development, R\&D, Package Design, and End-to-End Engineering, to ensure alignment and clarity throughout the project lifecycle.

• Clearly document and communicate technical information, ensuring all stakeholders understand requirements, timelines, and deliverables.

• Work effectively with team members at all levels, providing necessary support and tools to direct reports and fostering open communication within the group.

• Assess your audience to determine the appropriate depth for technical discussions.

• Support Brand Value Chain (BVC) and Global Supplier Management (GSM) with package development schedules and identify risks or ways to mitigate risks to support a component availability requirement.

• Identify and inform BVC and GSM of any risks and or delays during the course of development.

• Establish workload priorities to ensure all projects are managed within expected due dates.

Direct and Indirect Management

• Manage direct reports ensuring they are provided the necessary support and tools to succeed on the assigned task or project.

• Communicate and work closely with all development groups including Marketing, Product Development, R&D, Package Design and End to End Engineering.

• Work with the Outline and Artwork Management teams to generate outlines efficiently and process artwork correctly and effectively.

• Work with BVC and GSM to manage specific project development and provide detail analysis on risk when required.

• Build and cultivate relationships with the cross functional Value Chain team (Global Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Quality).

Qualifications

Education / Certification

• Minimum BS degree in Packaging Science or related Engineering field.

Direct Experience

• 7+ years’ experience in cosmetic package development.

• Concentrated experience in prestige beauty industry with proven development experience in fragrance, color and/or skin care categories

• Proficiency in computer systems including Unique Package Definition Systems, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Timeline management systems.

Technical Competency

• Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.

• Comprehensive knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging including but not limited to:

• Injection molding.

• Extrusion molding.

• Metal forming.

• Glass forming.

• Vacuum forming.

• Assembly of components.

• Dispensing systems (Pump, Airless).

• Folding carton and rigid box design.

• Comprehensive knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.

• Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance.
