Our client, a well known national retail company is currently hiring an Associate Art Director to focus on Packaging for their private label brands.This opportunity is hybrid, with 3 days onsite in NYC.The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic, hands-on creative leader focused on packaging. In this role, you'll concept, develop, and execute packaging and design projects across multiple product lines within home, beauty and apparel. You'll collaborate closely with the Art Director, cross-functional partners, and external talent to deliver work that aligns with the company's customer strategy while pushing creative boundaries. You'll lead one to two direct reports and manage designers on projects ranging from seasonal and private label packaging to graphic development and special initiatives.Responsibilities:- Collaborate with Art Director to develop seasonal and private label packaging concepts, balancing hands-on design and high-level art direction-Deliver creative solutions across product categories (e.g. Pet, Textiles, Stationery, Frame Art)-Drive packaging designs for brand refreshes and new launches, ensuring strong visual storytelling and shelf impact-Research market trends, presenting insights to inspire future creative projects-Integrate sustainable design practices into packaging development, including material choice and production methods-Oversee projects from concept to completion, including mood boards, presentations and final asset production (working with Director of Production)-Ensure adherence to established processes, identifying areas for improvement-Review print proofs and samples as needed to ensure design integrity -Manage and mentor 1-2 designers, providing clear feedback, coaching, and career development support-Partner with Project Management and Merchants to align on milestones and ensure timely execution-Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships across the internal team and stakeholders-Ensure brand consistency and high standards across all packaging touchpointsRequirements:-Bachelor's degree in related field-10+ years of design experience, including 3+ years managing packaging projects (retail/consumer goods preferred)-Strong portfolio showcasing a range of innovative packaging and private label work across categories (home, beauty, apparel or adjacent spaces)-Proven leadership and managerial skills providing thoughtful, actionable feedback when needed-Ability to concept at a high level while also executing hands-on design work-Strong typography, layout, color, and production knowledge specific to packaging-Passion for sustainability and forward-thinking packaging solutions-Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with 3D rendering software (PacDora, Solidworks) a plus In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
